Bear in mind that if you use MAAF for line rental you will be unable to use any other provider for your calls.0

Thanks very much to all of you who replied.I was beginning to wonder if having the low user scheme was the problem.I make very few calls and that is why i have put up with dial up for as long as i have!!But i use the internet so much that as i am getting a faster, more modern computer, with Windows xp,next month,it seems only right to go on to broadband.
i knew i would lose the low user scheme.I am waiting till i get my next bill from BT,end of next month, before i change.Meanwhile i can either do what MAAF suggests, and change to their dial up,then broadband,or change to their line rental, which i intend doing anyway, and then go straight to broadband from Orange.
Nidhi,do you think that is the best option?
Hi Froglet,
You can sign up for our line rental and broadband at the same time. Since you already have a voice service with BT, we will transfer your voice service over to us first followed by broadband.
I had suggested signing up for dial up in case you were planning to take up our broadband service only.
Please let me know if you need more information on our voice service.
Kind regards

If you never ever use the phone anyway I wouldn't worry too much, the phone contract is only 1 month so you could switch back if you found out you were making lots of calls.
You can however still use the 0844 etc. override numbers to call overseas.0 -

Before switching your phone line away from BT, read this article by Heinz. Your money saving options are better staying with BT as discussed many times before! Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -

The problem is they won't let you use the 1899/18185 services which means that you will have to pay MAAF call charges for all daytime calls.
Madasafish charge 3p a minute for daytime calls (minimum charge 5p) whereas using 1899 is 0p per minute - you just pay the 5p connection charge once per call.
You can get free evening and weekend calls with BT by using primus.0 -
Thanks again folks.I make very very few calls, especially in the daytime.I usually manage to contact most companies by email if i possibly can.The advantage of free calls evenings and weekends will be good though.
Something that worries me, and i am trying to find out more,is what BT will charge for ditching them.I read somewhere they can charge up to a years rental!! Is this correct? Anyone experienced this?0 -

Still don't understand why you want to ditch BT. Keep your money saving options open!

Actually espresso i am beginning to look at that option.I have had it easy for 6 years with the low user scheme and just imagined it would work out very dear for ordinary calls, plus rental. My bills are no more than about £18 per quarter.
But i am looking at their options at present.I have never thought about using other companies to reroute calls. Is this what you mean?0 -
Yes - stay with BT, sign up with primus as mentioned previously, it's free, and you get unlimited free evening and weekend calls to 01 and 02 numbers (same as MAAF). Better than MAAF as they only allow calls up to 60 mins then charge 3p/minute. Primus give you up to 90 mins and should you go over then its only 1p/min.
Then you can get all daytime calls free via 1899, just paying the 5p connection fee.
Get your BT bill on-line, and the cost is only 76p/month more than MAAF - and if you want caller display, it's free (make 2 calls a month via BT), but £1.50/month via MAAF.0 -
Can you please advise if the Madasafish / Freenetname webspace supports PHP.0
