k, we have bought the kitchen but have not yet decided whether we want to get granite or wood?
If wood, i read somewhere that you could get someone round to spray the worktops to protect them against wear and tear. Does anyone know what exactly this is so i can ask around and get a quote?
Im not sure i can stretch to granite...0 -
For Price I would recommend getting a quote from Whitton Worktops -they were by far the cheapest I found, and their customer service was fantastic.

Long awaited update haha.
After reading about we settled with mayfair granite, really good on the phone never pushy and gave plenty help and info, sent out a bundle of samples too.
Went with Blues in the Night, so after wanting a cheap install have ended up with one of the more expensive granites available lol.
Template next week after a horrendous plumbing delay around xmas
Will update this as the order progresses0 -

I'm looking for a granite work surface and have quotes from Diapol and Mayfair Granite.
Armed with the very helpful technical information in this thread I have spoken to both companies.
Mayfair are about £400 more than Diapol.
Does anybody have any experience or thoughts about them or can they recommend another supplier to fit in London ?
Thanks for any help.0 -
This guy has used a company title as his username, yet another spammer, :T:T:T, trying to cash in on one of the best threads on MSE
Google the company if you wish but please hit the spam button afterwards, if he's read anything he'd realise Alan left long back.I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Dear All
I wish I had read this forum before purchasing my granite. I would appreciate any advice please.
Essentially, I wanted Kashmir White granite but was told before Christmas that the granite mine in India had been closed down by the Indian government because of corruption or something along those lines.
I was given something fairly similar with a little more aubergine speckling - I am afraid I don't know the name. After it was installed I noticed that every time I left anything wet on the surface a darker patch would be left. The company told me it hadn't been sealed properly and sent some people to seal it. They also told me that lighter granites are more porous and that I will always get stains.
I then noticed that there were patches coming through on the backsplash behind the hob and upstand. I was told that this was the silicon and that it would dry out. It has been more than 3 months and still not "dried out". The company are now saying that there is nothing wrong with my granite, that my house was too cold.
My questions are please:
1. with a lighter granite am i meant to get stains every time i put a wet dish on the surface?
2. does the silicon show through the granite and will it ever go / how do i get rid of the patches (is there something I can do)
many thanks in advance.0
