Granite Worktops - Truth, Lies and misinformation

I can't tell you what you should or shouldn't get, or whether the excuses being given you are valid, but you will be at risk from strong colours such as red wine, blackcurrant, curry etc if you have a light finish.
I went for Kashmir Gold, there are pictures of it earlier in this thread if you search back.
It has every colour under the sun in it and you wouldn't see a tain even if it absorbed 1. It is proving bullet proof in regards to staining.
It's not totally bullet proof though as it fell foul of a can knocked down from a wall unit above, it hit right on the front edge and chipped about 6mm x 3mm out, you felt it rather than saw being where it was.
Now there must be folks out there that come along and patch up damaged granite tops, but I did find away to do this myself, with perfect results, I can relate that to anyone with the same issue.
Sorry OP, I have side tracked a little, but the point is mine is a medium colour and doesn't stain or water mark, it's about 3 years plus now.;)I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

I *think* he possibly got cheesed of with MSE labeling him as a trader, when all he did was to trying to give an overview of the industry and it's product +s and -s;);)I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

He was very honest, I would have purchased from him.0

You miss the point, he was a wholesale supplier into the trade, he didn't deal with the general public hence his unbiased advice;)
MSE didn't get that and he became very frustrated with it.I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Yes I know he was wholesale, his posts blew all the others out the water, he exposed what was the truth, I think his company was called At Stone, but looking now it just does polishing pads.

I had no idea granite worktops were such a minefield! Thanks all (well, all the non-spammers anyway) on the thread for forewarning me.
Anyone know/recommend a good supplier in North or West Yorkshire? cheers if you can help0 -
Hi,
I am having a granite worktop fitted soon and have been thinking of buying one of the spring neck spray taps. The fitter said that those taps are quite heavy and so it is possible that the granite may get small cracks around the tap cut out.. Does that sound right??0 -
Mayfair granite in Bradford did my daughters and then mine, and since then a friend I recommended them to used them.
Not a bad word to say about them, and they were very competitive.
My only real advice is don't rely on samples sent through the post, they are unlikely to be from the current slaps in stock and may differ widely from what you actually get. Go visit there works/plant, not their showroom;);)
Same holds true for any supplier, it helps you get a feel for their quality of work. Classic example, I visited a firm in your area that advertise heavily on ebay, the product was fine, but given the quality of installation in their showroom, an area that should be as good as it gets, I walked away.
edited to high light for the poster below.I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Morning all,
Has anyone recently had worktops produced and installed by Diapol or Mayfair recently? What were your experiences?
Both are providing very similar quotes for a white quartz worktop, starlight or the like. The only real difference being their payment plans. Diapol take the majority/all at the end. Mayfair a little up front, a little after templating and majority at the end.
Diapol quote 2-3weeks from install to fitting and Mayfair 5-7 days. We have two little children so Mayfair is just edging it for me currently because of this.
Look forward to hearing any feedback. Thanks0
