Granite Worktops - Truth, Lies and misinformation

Well, thanks to a lot of advice on this forum, we've narrowed down what we want in terms of granite worktops (ivory fantasy or kashmir white/gold) but are struggling with a supplier. One of our more local quotes is from a company called Cool Rock in Chippenham. Has anyone had experiences of them? Otherwise we are looking at maybe Diapol who are nationwide or someone further afield.
I take the advice that we should see the slab before we buy it - but if it's a nationwide supplier like Diapol or Mayfair (Bradford) it's difficult.
So anyone know of a good reliable supplier within reach of Swindon?
Before I post a reply to your comments, I would like to make it clear that Iam an Employee of Marble 4 Life who specialised is Quartz & GraniteWorktops.
I would always recommend going to view the actual granite slabs your worktops are going to be cut from, especially with lighter colour such as Kashmir Gold and Kashmir White. Where this is not possible I would recommend asking the company to send you a high definition image of the actual slab your granite worktops are going to be cut from. Also in regards to Kashmir White this is a very rare material at the moment due to the illegal mining that was going on in India has lead to the quarries being shut. However we do currently have some slabs of Kashmir White in stock.0 -

Sarah, can you confirm or otherwise that you are the sister company to Mayfair Granite?
No intent other than as I posted earlier, me and another relative have used the services of Mayfairs "other arm", just wanted to be able to offer my recommendation.I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

After looking around at random quartz and granite weve found the following:
Most quartz the mirror/fleck bits are too large.
Wren Kitchens have a quartz with VERY small flecks called midnight Ice but we are unable to find out what make/brand the stone it.
Granite with flecks tend to look very coppery which imho makes it look dirty constantly.
We may be going with solid black granite, jet black I think places call it.
I've been quoted for jet black granite supplied, cut and installed but the guy doesnt offer any form of warranty
B&Q will supply granite in 3m straight lengths at 540 a piece with a 10year warranty.
I need 2.6m lengths but if I have these cut by a third party I will lose the warranty and the B&Q rep stated they will only supply 1.8m lengths with a sink cutout
So Im still looking for a reliable supplier in the north east or one that travels for:
2x 2.6m(ish) lengths of jet black granite or midnight Ice quartz
1 length uncut, edged to 3 sides.
1 length with sink cutout and drainer grooves, edged to 3 sides.
2x2.6m(ish) length of upstands
1x1.8m(ish) length of upstand (for windosill)
1xCooker splashback approx 80*90
Any help very much appreciated.0 -

Depending how far North then the company I used in Bradford may be ideal for you. Sarah has confirmed what I remember from about 2/3 years back. they are Mayfair Marble/Granite4life.
Their production facility is fully computerised and 2nd to non, and all stock is held indoors allowing for easy inspection. Both myself and my daughter, (I went with them on having watched them fit hers to a kitchen I had installed for her), are very satisfied customers, nothing more.;);)
I get what you say about granite appearing ununiform and with variations in tone, but in anything other than jet black, that is what you should expect. I view it differently, Quartz is an artificial, man made product, Granite is mined from the earth, nothing more. I prefer the variation, indeed that along with the greatest colour spectrum was what I searched out.
For the record mine is Kashmir Gold, DH's Jet black or similar.
And purely as an observation, her's marks easily, mine doesn't:DI like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

I only have 1 thing to say to you Steve.
If you want to spam another poster's worthy effort to explain the details of stone worktops in your own company name, then you should start another thread and not try to latch onto this established reference.
