Granite Worktops - Truth, Lies and misinformation

Has anyone used Granite4you for a kitchen worktop? I've contacted/visited quite a few now in London and they have the most competitive quote so far. I'm wondering if there are any drawbacks in quality of workmanship etc. Have read most of this thread and was most interested in the topic of templating and use of CNC machines or onsite cutting using handtools. I guess this Company being a cheaper quote will use the latter method. Any pointers much appreciated. :beer:0

I was wondering if the following was true only of Scottish granite suppliers or generally around the country. I've visited several places and all of them said that they only order Star Galaxy in on demand without holding any stock of it. So the option of going to see the slab you're ordering is not an option it seems... Also, they said they have no control over how it will come in - whether the length will be over 3m (highly unlikely) and whether the speckle will be small and uniform or large grain and clustered... And indeed of all the slabs I've seen in stock yards (allocated to existing jobs) all were very unequal in terms of quality and grain whereas one of the reasons I'm interested in Star Galaxy is the uniformity of pattern. This makes me wonder if I should change to a different granite? Any similar experiences or opinions? Thanks!0

I can only comment on my local suppliers at the time I was looking, and it was for a different colour anyway.
But, that is the whole reason I keep stressing the view before you buy aspect, the quality/size and uniformity has to vary widely due to this being a natural product, it is dug from the earth and polished, what is found at different strata levels can vary imemsely.
I was told it was more varied with the lighter or stone colours materials though, maybe it isn't.;)
Again the catalogue of the company I used said 3mtr in length, and the samples they initially sent me were pale, when I went to view they had 4mtr sheets of a much richer and marbled appearance, perfect for me.I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Well, thanks to a lot of advice on this forum, we've narrowed down what we want in terms of granite worktops (ivory fantasy or kashmir white/gold) but are struggling with a supplier. One of our more local quotes is from a company called Cool Rock in Chippenham. Has anyone had experiences of them? Otherwise we are looking at maybe Diapol who are nationwide or someone further afield.
I take the advice that we should see the slab before we buy it - but if it's a nationwide supplier like Diapol or Mayfair (Bradford) it's difficult.
So anyone know of a good reliable supplier within reach of Swindon?0 -
Hi,
Has anyone used or heard of http://www.granitemaster.co.uk/. They are based in Dewsbury, West Yorkshire.
I've done the online quote with Diapol and Granite Master have come back with a cheaper quote. Im planning on going and having a look at their place but wanted to check if anyone had any dealings with them before I do.
Thanks,

Mayfair, or it's trade sister company, (that I used but it's company name escapes me), supply and fit as far as London if not further.
I wanted and eventually got Kashmir Gold, but, after trawling around many yards and showrooms, it became apparent that it was one of the most widely varying forms out there, the worst being diluted and drab against the vibrant colour when at it's best.
If you check back earlier in this thread I posted pictures.
What I was going to suggest is that you talk to them, avoid a showroom sample, it may be years out of date in terms of present colour. Ask for a sample from current stock, tell them you will pay a tenner for postage of a large sample. They had tons in their skips when I visited.;)I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
