Granite Worktops - Truth, Lies and misinformation

This is an overlay solution - there are pros and cons for this over the real stuff. The overlay material is a composite of stone, granite and quartz whereas granite is natural out of the ground.
There's an article comparing the two options here http://granitezone.co.uk/blog/?p=30
I'm sorry but I disagree after reading that.
It is so easy to remove existing worktops that it really only just comes into the equation, plus, reading from the link;
Verdict: OVERLAY GRANITE
With no old worktops to remove, the granite overlay option is the one to choose when looking for an installation process that’s less messy.

Less messy?overlaying?
There is no mess with solid granite and you get what you pay for, granite not reconstituted stone.
Look, I'm not anti any thing, but if anyone thinks they are getting "granite" overlays, then they are mistakenI like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -

Wow - What a useful thread. I'm planning for new kitchen and need any of your advice on the worktop. I have decided on Granite worktop and got few quotes ranging from £2000-£3500. I see quite a few offering 3 length granite worktops including fitting for even £1200 on ebay and gumtree.
Any advise on why the price is so different and any experiences with any ebay Granite sellers for example:
www. gumtree. com/p/for-sale/premium-granite-quartz-worktops/1013393055
(Above is also posted on ebay and is having feedback which is bit circular and bit dodgy)

Any comments are welcome.

I probably visited the supplier off ebay that you referred to. I wasn't impressed with the material in stock, or the quality of fitting of the granite in their own showroom, and lets face it you want to get that one right.
Only 1 but of advice and it's repeated throughout this thread, go and see the actual materials and the workshop facility of the companies you've shortlisted, the people I and family have used said that a viewing journey from london up to mid yorks wasn't unusual.
Unfortunately the author of this thread who deserves all the credit isn't posting any more, at least not on this thread, I believe MSE gave him a few issues regarding him being a trader, sad really, this must be the single most useful topic in this section of the forum.
You get what you pay for holds up pretty well when buying granite, but you don't have to spend extortionate amounts to get a perfect job.
Go put your names on the slab(s) you need,, and you can get longer than 3 mtrs if you need the length.;);)I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
