FREE Sky+ HD box & line rental or free Sky+ & £25 cashback. New top Sky deals.

What's the deal?
It's possible for new customers to get a Free Sky+ HD box with phone line rental or Free Sky + and £25 cashback. This is all because of a promotion being run until 17 June by comparison site Simplify Digital which gives an automatic £55 cashback
This is unlike with cashback sites where payment depends on the retailer coughing up, here Simplify Digital pay you the cashback out of its own pocket, so it's guaranteed.
Sky + is the TV provider's killer application, it lets you record individual programmes or series, and live pause.
The deals in detail
There are two deals available, by far the most competitive is the High Definition box, which may be worth getting even if you don't have an HD-TV but are planning to - as you can still use it with a normal TV.
Go direct to Sky and you just get a free Sky+ box plus £25 in Tesco vouchers, no where near the £55 cashback.
On the surface it may seem so, as some 'cashback websites' give up to £130 cashback on the Sky+ HD deal. Yet crucially these don't include the free line rental worth about £120 - take that away and they're way behind Simplify digital.
Plus cashback sites are websites that list retailers/product providers and get paid if you click through them. They then give some or all of this cash to you. However the cashback's never 100% guaranteed; if there's a dispute between the retailer and the cashback site, you won't get the cashback. For more read the Best Cashback Sites guide. To find the best paying cashback site use the Cashback site comparison tool.
With Simplify digital the cashback is part of the offer and its deal with Sky so it is likely to be far more reliable.
What about existing customers?
Like all similar deals to this you aren't eligible for it. Yet don't give up hope - this is a great negotiating tool if you're near the end of your contract. Simply call up Sky customer service, tell it you've seen this deal and you'd like it. If you're feeling more militant you can threaten to cancel and switch to Freeview if you don't get the deal you want. For a similar technique see the mobile phone haggling guide.

What is Sky+?
It's a hard-drive recorder which means you can live pause and rewind live programmes, and record things without tape. It's been called Sky's "killer application" and is rated by the Which? as the top box of its type.

The deals in detail
There are two deals available, by far the most competitive is the High Definition box, which may be worth getting even if you don't have an HD-TV but are planning to - as you can still use it with a normal TV.
- Free Sky+ HD & line rental & broadband
The Sky+HD deal* gets yoou the box for £49 (usually £199 though commonly on sale for £49) but the £55 cashback, effectively meaning you're £6 up. Importantly this also includes the massive bonus of free line rental for a year (worth c £120) plus free installation.
However there is of course the monthly subscript to pay, with a minimum year's contract. The cheapest package is o you just pay for the box, £16.50 for the basic package plus there's a £9.75/mth for the HD subscription meaning a total £26.25. Overall though it means you get the whole kit and caboodle for £14/mth more than you would pay for just a basic BT phone line
HD gives you access to high definition channels but you'll need an HD TV too. See the Cheapest LCD HD TVs guide.
You'll also get free 2MB broadband included with the free line rental (though check its available for you in some areas its not) plus evening and weekend calls. Note: Simplify Digital says 'With broadband' and charges an extra £5 - this is for the 8MB broadband. Stick to the cheapest package and you'll get the 2MB broadband free.
- Free Sky+ box plus £25
With the Sky+ deal* the box (usually £99) is free and there's the £55 cashback but a £30 installation fee; so that's £25 overall. Line rental isn't included, so you can choose to go with Sky or another phone provider (see Cheap Home Phones).
Go direct to Sky and you just get a free Sky+ box plus £25 in Tesco vouchers, no where near the £55 cashback.

Are these offers only available to new Sky customers? How long do you have to unsubscribe for in order to be a new Sky customer? Is there any way for existing Sky customers to get a free/discounted Sky+ box? I tried phoning yesterday and pointing out that it seems really unfair that as we have been loyal customers for 15 years we get nothing but got absolutely no where! There is no cable TV in our area, and no one else does a similar package to Sky that I'm aware of.ilovefreegle.org - give it away don't throw it away0

It is unfair I agree, I used to work for a call centre selling Sky, The exact excuse to that question is "You would have gotten a good deal when you signed up back then". Morons.0

I recently signed up to Sky +HD through Quidco. Their offer was £49 for the box and free installation + £120 cashback and £25 Tesco vouchers AND you get the first month of HD free! Apparently, the cashback has now also gone up to £130.
This offer is for new Sky customers only and you don't get the phone/broadband bundle.
Worked for me though !0 -
I really want to take advantage of this deal but I think I'm going to need some help!
Has anyone successfully moved from talktalk to Sky? I currently get my phone rental, calls and broadband via talktalk. I am out of a contact. I would like everything to be with Sky (I already use sky TV, out of contract).
To take advantage of the Sky offer you need a BT line. The Sky number 'checker' on the website says that my line isn't compatible because it isn't BT.
I was also thinking of cancelling my Sky TV and setting up this new one in my wifes name. I've heard that counts as being a new customer - can anyone confirm?
Thanks in advance.

I wonder if you can upgrade the phone calls package to Unlimited, since we call Italy a lot...hmmm...0

Why is it that Sky continue to disadvantage existing users. I have a standard Sky box and we have a communial dish in our apartment block and all rooms are already wired for both phones and digital signals. So why do I have to pay and installation charge of £60 for an engineer to come and and connect a new (multiroom) box to our existing communial satelite socket and existing telephone socket in another room. Something that even I can do with my eyes shut. :mad:0

EXSISTING CUSTOMERS CAN GET THE SAME DEAL WITH A BIT OF CHATTER!
Today I called Sky Cancellation Dept and stated: " I am just calling to find out what the procedure is for cancelling my sky as I'm looking to do this in the next couple of weeks." the obvious question was why. I then explained the fact that I'm not happy that New Customer get a free Sky plus box and £30.00 installation while we have to pay £99!!! She said she could understand why I was not happy. To push things along I said I have been a loyal customer and I have the top package, in which case I needed to know the process so I could call Virgin to get them to come and install a new package for me. At that point she said I'll see what I can do. Within seconds she then said WE WOULD BE MORE THAN HAPPY TO OFFER YOU THE SAME DEAL!!! FREE SKY PLUS AND £30.00 INSTALLATION! I said that is great further more I would like to pay for this on my pay day she said no problem we will add a note to your account and gives us a call when you are ready! RESULT!!!!! Also a few days ago I called them as my sisters had said they offered her a deal on her package I expressed that I wasn't happy and once again they offered me a deal the top package which is everything on sky normally £46 they gave it to me for £36.00 for 6 months!0 -

Just tried to sign up for the Sky+ deal using the link above.
The article says you can choose to have your own phone provider, and as i am with Tiscali and happy with them this is the best option for me.
However the site has told me I need to have a BT activated phone line and can't de-select Sky Talk from the package.

Great deal at just the right time.
5 year old CRT TV just gone bust and will be moving over to HD TV. Looking for a new Broadband supplier as I've just come to the end of the 12 - month contract period with Madasafish.
Shame its with Sky, but what choice do we have. No cable TV around here and the local telephone exchange is not unbundled
Now, where's my bank details for the Direct Debit0
