Oh dear that isn't always the best thing to do Gilla. Some of the less reputable companies just send you more once they know it's a valid monitored address :(

Thanks - I'll remember not to do that in the future.

  • They drive me mad and they must be from competitions! wish I could send them piles back as punishment!
Also I reckon its Koodos daily competition, its the only comp I've entered my sons e-mail address (who is 1 and doesn't use it himself!) into and I'm getting spam everyday. Sorry if I'm wrong but

EDIT: I am editing this post after receiving a PM from Koodos

"As an Operations Manager in koodos we take this post very seriously.

We would like to confirm that at no point do we give e-mail addresses to third party companies without your permission, however to ensure that our high levels of confidentiality are adhered to we would like to investigate this matter further– please e-mail"

I have apologised for implying that they may have been the reason for me getting junk-mail.
i do believe from their message to me that I was wrong.
I did always believe that their competition was genuine as I've seen winners on here, I didn't actually post this on the Competition Scams page, iIt has been moved here which makes my comment seem worse than it was!

I do not open them considering that most of these spam/phishing email's addreses start with support@................................

I place them in JUNK folder but somehow hotmail transfers them to DELETE folder.

Then I visit the DELETE folder and transfer them to JUNK folder.

In JUNK folder, I tick them all and REPORT THEM AS PHISHIING SCAM.

If everyone of us was to follow these steps, then HOTMAIL system would be overwhelmed and they would seriously take notice of these nuisance emails.

NEVER TRY TO TO "UNSUBSCRIBE" the as they tend to validate your email address and you will get more of them.

Sounds like a scam when they are trying to get you to ring up straight away for an extra bonus - to rope you in :rolleyes2

My b/f spoke to someone today saying I'd "won" a holiday as a prize for filling in a survey, when I asked him if it was Club LaCosta he looked suprised but then I've been hanging round this forum so long I now know better ;) Needless to say they haven't rung back since so hopefully they won't bother again....

Apologies if this ones already been posted but apparently there is a scam going aound at the moment where you find a postcard through your letterbox claiming to have tried to deliver something whilst you were out and to telephone a number to re-arrange delivery etc. The phone number, which I don't have before you ask, costs approx £15 the moment it connects. So I guess check numbers are kosher before you call etc. hope this helps someone.

Just had an email warning (thanks Wurzelsar) of this ..

.....PDS (Parcel Delivery Service) suggesting that they were unable to deliver a parcel and that you need to contact them on 0906 6611911 (a premium rate number)....................If you do receive a card with these details, then please contact Royal Mail Fraud on 02072 396655 or ICSTIS (the premium rate service regulator) at www.icstis.org.uk

Edit update: according to hoax slayer this was true, but the scam was shut down in late 2005

I have just taken a phone call from CLC (she didn't say what the initials stood for) regarding a customer survey my husband answered in Exeter last week. Apparently his ticket was selected first and required a confirmation call to this number: 0800 9889904. She checked that our income was in excess of a certain amount and that our ages fell within an adult but pre retirement age bracket. Of course our prize is a holiday for four in Europe!I was confused so unfortunately answered the questions but half thinking it must be suspicious. I wish I hadn't now and also wish that OH had done as I did and refused the survey; we have an unlisted number precisely in order to avoid scam and cold calls. Now I wonder just what he has let us in for!

I found the following very useful in deciding we won't be making that call
