I was advised by working links that I could set up a business of myown and work for 15 hours a week, earn up to £92 a week, and still get the ESA for up to a year.
Right.
Wrong. I cannot open a business account for another 4 years!!. My bank wont let me, and nobody else will either. Yet it is illegal to run a business through a personnal account.?
So looks like I cannot have myown business then!
Frustration growing as the day is advancing.
Mooloo - As far as I know you do not need to have a business bank account at all. (This was as of ~1yr ago as I was looking into it myself as a very part time sole trader on top of my FT job). Unless the rules have changed you don't have to have a separate account at all (for a sole trader anyway) just keep appropriate records and receipts etc - unless there are special rules for your financial situation?
Am I right in thinking you are/were bankrupt? Are there any extra rules about having a business during/after this? Is this what is causing problems? Sorry if I've got this wrong!
I think it is advised to separate personal and business banking to keep things simple (when doing tax returns etc) but this could mean having a 2nd bank account only used for your business eg another personal current account or even a savings account.
The banks would want you to pay for their business accounts (providing you could get it ) so wouldn't want you to use a personal (essentially free) account for a business. Personally I would just open a 2nd personal/basic current account (if I could) and use that as a business account!
If you can't, then just use your normal account... but just make sure you're on the ball as to whats business money/bills and personal money/bills etc. Even having a separate savings account may simplify things enough for it to be workable... (I get easily confused)
Have you contacted Business link / HMRC and explained the situation and asked them what is needed? I found the HMRC very helpful - they had a special line for newly self employed peeps (or those thinking of it) and were very patient with my totaly confused 101 questions! I also went on a half day course about self employment and tax returns. Very useful!
You'd definitely need to stop your DS from using your bank details though... Good luck sorting that out! :rolleyes:Mortgage free as of 12/08/20!

I wonder if it's a condition of the Working Links scheme that a business account has to be set up ?.................
....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)

Thanks everyone for all the information.
Shaz first, as with the same condition I know exactly how you are. The stuff knocks me sideways for days/weeks till I get used to them, and if you remember in Jan/Feb I was reeling with agony when medications fought each other and me!
I need to check out something with my Doctor too.
I have found the new car so much easier to use.
I havent had time to investigate the Arnica, but I have it on my todo list, along with the Hypericum that has been suggested today.
I shall telephone the Playgroup and see if my mate and I can go to them next week, when she has a week off of work. Its so close to the charity warehouse that we found last week so its worth a trip if we both have any funds left. But think that will depend on if I have any money for petrol next week. I have done 300 miles running about since I got the new car last week!!!
My bank gave me a a business advisory number, and then I was passed to
https://www.lessthanperfect.co.uk web site.
They say they can get around the system for Bankrupts like me, but at a fee of £69 for a basic business account.
Well I dont think I have £69 to spend on that at the moment, I am living from benefit payment to benefit payment. (I really need to get time to actually make more then the odd bag here and there, I need to make a stock of things asap to sell as fast as possible.)
I shall look on the other boards as suggested.
I think that I need to really put all the facts together and makesure I have it sorted out before I make any moves.
Taka I was made Bankrupt after my pub failed,in 2006. It took a year for the bankruptcy, which was May 2007. My bank tell me I cannot have a savings account as its the law.
My bank also say I cannot have a business account with them for 6 years after the bankruptcy. Apparantly I cannot save, or earn interest as I owe money.!! So we are not allowed to make amends for failings in thier eyes!.
My business was struggling and I had a stroke, age 43, and then less then 6 months later, I had a hysterectomy, meaning my eyes were not on the job for several months, and I had an insurance policy, I thought that would cover me, but alas it didnt. So I ran out of Cashflow funds, and could not buy the beer to sell it. Ironically the business was just beginning to improve, and I could have seen the light at the end of the tunnel, as my health had improved and I had "sacked" the twins from working for me. Also Biggest of Mooloo left to work for and live with her chap, and only working part time for me.
Anyway its all history. I am trying to move on.
I am not fit enough to work fulltime, or reliable healthwise to work for someone else. If I had a bad day, I would not manage to go out to work. So thats why I wanted to do a small business with the sewing.
The lunch today was reasonable, but unfortunately I have an upset stomach now, (not through lunch, as I was not good over the weekend either). THis meant that driving around all the afternoon was not so brilliant!. Just managed it. Luckily we had loos where I was going!.
Tonight I am not at the Art Club, watching economy gastronomy, but will not be venturing much now. It will be a heatpad and curl up in a ball in the reclining chair, with a fleece over me, and a reasonably early night, joints and tummy willing!!
Well tomorrow is another day, I will see if I am feeling well enough to go to Oxford or not. BF is decorating so he wont necessarily miss me if I dont go straight away.
I have been looking at the new budget, and I have managed to persuade NPower to re set my payment plan, and put the new cottage bills onto a payment arrangement too, so that I dont end up with massive bills every quarter. So that is my main success for the day.
Theoretically I will have enough coming in next month, and if I stick to budget I will manage. (But the holiday BF booked is looming next month too.) Wonder if I have any funds to spend other then the grocery budget. ....... That is enough to make me get something out on Ebay. Where are those dresses from Monsoon, and Jane Norman that no longer fit me..Perhaps its time to flog them! Every little helps as the saying goes. When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.0 -

Did you set up an ebay account? I was just wondering... can you not use a paypal account as your business account in the meantime? I've got quite addicted to selling my daughters old clothes through ebay and making some money to buy new.
p.s. My daughter loves her cushion... she carries it everywhere!0 -

Hi, I do have a paypal account, as I use that to buy things, just never sold things on there. Been to scared to get started really!! Silly of me I know.
I should sell things, I have too many clothes even though I cleared out all those wardrobes in the last place!. Is it easy to do?? Am I just too scared??
Glad your daughter loves the cushion. Havent found anything remotely as good to make into a cushion lately.!
I did make a baby dress out of a pillowcase over the weekend, and started two shopping bags out of another one, lined with pieces from a shower curtain!!
Tomorrow I may get to do somemore sewing, as if my tummy ache is not settled I will cancel going anywhere.
Not sure what I will make though. Will see how the mood takes me.
Perhaps I will sort out some clothes and get them ironed and photographed if you think its worth selling things. I had books on Green Metropolis for months and not one sold! So it sort of put me off doing. When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.0 -

Do a bit of research first, see what sort of prices things that you have are going for, and work out the postage (I weigh on my kitchen balance scales & use the online Royal mail calculator to work out my postage charges). then make a list, with each item's size, make, length / chest measurements, fabric, colours, any trim or special features. Also take a few pictures like full length, close-up for the colour or any detail etc.
I've found that taking a bit of time to put as much info in helps to sell things2021 Decluttering Awards: ⭐⭐🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇 2022 Decluttering Awards: 🥇

Mooloo someone on a favourite site I go onto made this fabulous quilt out of her partners favourite shirts
http://www.twopeasinabucket.com/mb.asp?cmd=display&thread_id=2880347
with how to make here
http://www.straw.com/quilting/articles/teequilts.html
very time consuming but I would imagine would be expensive of someone wanted to commission one from you.Tomorrow is always fresh, with no mistakes in it!0 -
That's a bit like the one that I was suggesting to do with the baby clothes. The t-shirt one is fantastic idea too! From reading around that web site mentioned above, it seems that most of the people on there make up the quilt and send it off to be quilted. I guess this takes a special machine?
I know I would be willing to commission a very special quilt. I'm sure many of my friends would too, as we've all got that box of clothes.... but what on earth to do with it?!0
