Paying dual Housing Benefit always used to be possible for a limited time, especially when the council usually want you in within a week but notice periods elsewhere are longer!

Yes Sue, I can claim upto 1 months housing benefit for both properties.
My Tenancy agreement is for 2 months, so I want to now get my notice in as soon as possible, as if its date to date, then we are talking about Christmas anyway.
If its per calander month, then its January 1st.

The property is due to be finished by the 25/26th November, however if its delayed then thats not too bad, as long as I know what I am doing.
I will need to have time to get in there and measure up, and get quotes and (in an ideal world) get carpets in, before we move in.
So I suppose if I was to work on moving in by the week beginning the 6th December, it would give the council a run off time, and give me time to get the carpets in, and anything else that i needed in. But its so close to Christmas that its a bit scarey.

I telephoned the housing association this morning and spoke to the person concerned. She said that as far as they are concerned I am the only tenant up for the property. That its mine, if I want it on viewing. I told her that I will want it, as even if its not an ideal house, its going to be the best option for me. That if they are going to do the few things that I asked, before I move in then its fine. i.e. the sink drainer being to the right and not the left.
I said that I will be quite happy with a home with central heating, a new kitchen and a new bathroom. It was just the time scale with my having to give 2 months notice. Also that I would like to have the room measurements, so that I can look/budget for the carpets/curtains, then also know what furniture I can and cannot take with me. She said that she will get an offer letter in the post for me today. Hurray!

I have to think about decluttering. Becuase I have so much in odds and sods, things that I really dont need, like old books, and paperwork thats going back to old businesses, that I think are now passed 6 years!
Clothes that I have alas grown out of, and doubt I will ever get back into now. Like size 8!!! when I have gone to a 12!
(I dare not think about how fast I have thickened around the middle!!) very eek.
Anyway, what I shall have to do, is pace myself. I over did it at the beginning of the week.
On the furniture side, I will be loosing the diningroom table and chairs, as they belong to Biggest of Mooloo anyway.
I dont have any wardrobes to take, well Only one canvas covered one.
The only piece of furniture I would hate to loose is the wall unit, I love it. I bought it when I moved into the previous house, and its really a bit big for here, but if I have to downsize again, thats my only worry. We will see.
Everything else came from a charity shop, well actually so did that< and if its not wanted by family, then I suppose thats the option, donate it back to a charity.(or freecycle etc etc).

I am more confident after talking to the lady that I will actually be moving.
Molly tells me there are workmen at the house now, so as long as they dont disapear off to somewhere else to work, we should be ok.

Re the cost of the removals, the man did say that he would undercut any quote I get by 10%. So he is obviously desperate for some work. Being a small family firm, I would more likely go with him then I would one of the bigger firms, but I am getting quotes from 4 people, over the next week and we will see how it goes.

I would prefer to know from the Social Services what they will and will not help me with, then I can feel more at peace. As you know I am a terrible worrier and I am doing my best not to be.!

Oh celebrations! my childbenefit has reached the bank!! yipee. yipee, if I could dance a reel i would!
I was looking to see if the funding for the carers had been sorted out, but so far its not.
I was told on the phone that I should receive it 2 weeks after they receive the DD, so actually that means that I cannot expect it until the end of the month. But at least I know that it is coming.

  • Awww, looks perfect for you! x
  • Doesn't look small to me? And given that cottages are usually small surely this will have more room? It looks a really nice house.
