Mooloo are you sure about the Sky contract? I remember having a discussion with them which went along the lines of "well, we can't exactly penalise you for moving house.." Double check with their retention department, see if you cen't wangle a free install. at your new plave. Also try the TV board they may have some good suggestions.

Well the guy said that if I cancelled I had to pay for the next 7 months at £29 as I hadnt been with them long enough.

As the new house doesnt have a dish, (old lady used to live there), it would cost me £60 to have a dish put up there.

But perhaps I could try calling again, and speaking to someone else, and see if they can help me. I have to call back in 2 weeks as they couldnt book changes so far in advance! ha ha.

PS - Freecycle could be a source of free carpets or floorcoverings to tide you over, if you can get someone to collect of course. There are quite a few offers of used carpet on our group.

I shall keep my eyes open, but so far there hasnt been any. However I was looking in Ikea this morning, and there were some carpets at £29.99 that would do a good job to start with. Now if I could get some of my petrol money back, then I might be able to get new.
    We will see.

Molly and I bought some bits in Ikea today. I got a shelving unit that some boxes slide into, for DGD's room. May even get another one for my sewing at a later date. But I also bought some storage boxes, designed for clothes, but I will use for under my bed with fabrics.

    I am exhausted.
DGD caused chaos at one time! I was very embarassed, and have the bruises on my shins where she kicked out at me, when I lifted her.
Body aches all over, and I had hoped that she would sleep this afternoon, but so far no luck. Its going to be a long day.
DS doesnt finish college until 7.30this evening. So I aimed to go and pick him from college at that time, as it will be quicker in the long run then waiting for him to get a bus across town to the bus station and then back to our town.
Roll on the move and he can get buses abit easier. And end up able to walk the last few minutes home instead of 8.5miles away.

The dawning of a new day. We were up at 6am, and getting ready to take DS to the busstop. DGD is now watching TV while I try to catch up on a few things.
About to check the bank balances and read my emails But we have only 30 minutes and we are off out to collect twin2, and go and see the boys. ITs been a over a month since we last saw them. (not twin2, she goes every Tuesday and Thursday).

I am very sore today, over did it pushing the trolley, and lifting DGD yesterday, and the extra driving, as in the evening I drove to the college and back again as well.

Catch up later or I will be chasing my tail all day.

Oh ecky thump! I cannot get my hotmail to work, server error!!

I am very tired, but it was so lovely to see my boys, as DGD describes the grandchildren. They are both suffering from the cold, so lots of nose blowing! I took some photos and a bit of video, but the batteries ran low again! Luckily I had more in the car.
Twin2 had to go to the solicitor afterwards, and I had to hang around. DGD did yet another of the tantrums, and annoyed me intensely. (not a tear in site, just a lot of screaming at me). It was an effort to get her into the buggy, and to keep calm, and continue to insist, quitely and gently that her behaviour would not be tollerated.). But it has paid its toll on me.
I had to take her back to the car, and wait there.
Molly tells me there are council vehicles outside of the house that is proposed to be mine. I still have not had an official letter, and am loathed to hand in my notice to the landlord until I have the definate in writing. Tomorrow if there is not a letter in the post I will call them and ask them to put it in writing. I do not want to hand in my notice and then find that the lproperty has been guzumped by someone more needy then me!
I seem to be going through far too much money, on random bills, that I had not expected.
The council have just changed thier request for payment for the overpayment, and said they are going to take out £96! on the 1st December, then £48 the two following months.? Why cannot they spread it evenly, especially with Christmas coming up. I have been paying £48, and set up a Direct debit for it, so why they are not taking it out is beyond me?
I will have to call them tomorrow, I am too tired, or is that exhausted, to argue with a computer today.
The place is a mess, as I havent managed to do the housework today.
I have someone coming tomorrow at 9am to give me a quote for removals. So its going to be up in the morning as early as I can, and get myself moving enough to tidy up, and get it back to scratch. How come DS and DGD can make my home look upside down in a matter of 24 hours.
DS is not back from college today. He goes to his friends, so I am on my own with DGD now for the weekend. I am hoping to take her to my BF's for Saturday, but I need to do stuff here before I can take time out.
I am behind on my plan of action, (and annoyed with my body for letting me down!).
I forgot to collect my prescription again! What an idiot, luckily I still have a few of each thing except the codiene! But I am not sure thats on my repeat anyway. May need to see the doctor, as I am not doing as well as I would have liked, and think I may need to get more to get me through the pain barrier for a few weeks while I get going.
I am going to find out how much it is for them to supply me with the boxes etc and maybe the wardrobe style boxes so I can just transfer the clothes that are hanging into them. Then I may get to keep the boxes for a little while until I can get a wardrobe sorted out?)
Right I must get into the kitchen and sort out some food for us. Not that we are that hungry yet, we have been snacking a bit today. (Thats cos I had my approved food delivery!).

Morning, was about to update when the man from the removal firm arrived, 30minutes early. He has quoted me from £400 for a basic bung it into the van, to £600 if they come in and pack it all for me, and put it in the rooms I want at the other end.! now if I was to get my money back from the SS I would be thrilled as I could pay for it with out a blink in the eye.
Still need to downsize it all though as its just so much clutter, I dont want to take it all with me.

Its Stay and Play, this morning, so we are getting ready for that. At least as he came early we are not going to be doing a mad dash across country to see twin1.

I with the council would give me a letter offereing the property so I can be sure I am going to get it afterall.
Then I could hand in my notice to the landlord with confidence. I think I will have to write to him and give it to him by Monday anyway.

  • Did you try offering him £500 to do the all in service? With my last move I got them down quite a lot from their first quote. x
  • if you have unwanted furniture, could get your local council to do a pick up? (i mean if its no good for freecycle or firewood) mine are very good and will pick up broken tumbledryers ,mattresses etc for free

Haggle !!! Removal firms are desparate for business, if they've managed to stay in business.
.................:)....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)

I would not formally give notice on your existing place until you have a moving date in writing from the council.

the last thing you want to do is give in notice, he gets another tenant and then the council property is delayed if the work is not done in time. could you have a chat with him and ask if he is flexible - he may want to do some work on your place before a new tenant moves in so may not need the full notice period from you.

alternatively if the council do not give you a months notice of your moving in date, could you ask for the start of your tenancy with them to be delayed so you can give your landlord a months notice without having to pay double rent. I am sure someone will be along who knows the answer to this question!

Paying dual Housing Benefit always used to be possible for a limited time, especially when the council usually want you in within a week but notice periods elsewhere are longer!
