elle - thanks for the tip. We were planning on going to the Baby Show anyway, but this is another good reason! My only problem is I don't even know what I'm supposed to be looking for! Seems like there's a zillion different kinds out there...:(

How many of the bambinex did you buy?

I'm also worried about the Bambino poo explosions, as the nappy lady said the same thing but also that when babies start moving around a bit they can dislodge the inner nappy so the bigger ones aren't always very good.

    Bit of a mine field.

I bought 20, to give me a bit of leeway if I don't get round to washing as often as I should ;). I have two older kids and hubbie in the house, so I worked on the basis that I might sometimes fall down on the job. My plan though is to keep a few in reserve unused as emergency ones, so that if I do keep up to the washing schedule, I can at least ebay these and get some money back. You can't list them on ebay once they have been used, but pre-washed seems to be ok.

It was a bit of an outlay to buy so many, but because this isn't my first baby, I didn't have everything to buy from scratch so had a bit more baby funds sloshing around to spare. I also worked on the basis that if I could make it work, I'd save a lot on a weekly basis anyway, though my main motivation in buying reusables I must confess was a deep dislike for the smell of used disposables hanging around in the bin for a week. We don't have anywhere to keep an outside bin at the back of the house and aren't allowed to put our rubbish out early at the front, where there is room, so there is the potential for the place to get very pongy, and my experience is that those sangenic nappy wrappers you can buy, don't make a huge amount of difference after a day or two if you can't empty them outside!

Can you then use these from 8 weeks until baby is dry. I could only see size 1 and 2, not shared size listed.

We've been quite lucky in that both sets of parents have chipped in to buy us the main bits for the nursery and travel e.g. pram etc, and I'm making lots of the stuff for the nursery decorations, so I have got the money for initial outlay I just don't want to buy the wrong system, esp if I don't get on with the bambino mios (although i got those for free) Think I need to call the nappy lady!

PS Doesn't the nappy bucket smell a bit, too? Although it has a lid.

Bear - I'm a 1st time mum, too, but there's some interesting articles on the Nappy Lady website about nappy buckets and the different systems you can use. By and large, she says they don't really smell.

Glad everything went well with the scan nanc. How are you feeling about joining team pink?

Umm I really dont know, excited because I can do girly things, But I know whata total cow bag I was between 12-20 my poor parents were put through hell....

I really imagine cheering my son on at fottie etc, I know girls can play the sports as well, but I just had a vision in my head and also really loved a boys name in particular.

It just feels strange but brilliant now because so far so good everything with baby seems fine, re growth etc which is excellent.. I'm also keeping the dinosaur theme for the bedroom ha ha..

A friend of mines parents spent £300 on some nappies v good quality re-useable nappies for them, and when the twins came she just coudnt get on with them, and keep with the ahsing etc.. I think twins had a big part to play, but she felt really dissapointed with herself that she couldnt get to grips with them, which she shouldnt have, so she sold them on e-bay in the end for a lot less money..

I'm glad i made a ticker and managed to post it on page 1 as it's helping me keep track :D I'm 13+4 today, still haven't told anyone which i'm quite impressed about. Aiming to wait til 16 weeks, or even the 20 week scan, but doubt we'll last that long.

Biggest thing is OH ex finding out as he left her for me and i imagine it would be a bit of a kick in the face for her, she'll prob worry he'll have less time for their kids, i would feel the same but she has no need to worry - i just hope she'll be ok with it and let their kids come to our home!

Other than that there's no real reason we haven't told anyone yet, just haven't felt the need as we're in our own bubble at the minute and don't want time to drag with people asking about it all the time. Didn't tell anyone til 14/15 weeks with DS but only because i didn't find out til i was 12 weeks!

I suspect baby might outgrow them a bit before he or she is ready to potty train, but as they go up to 22kgs, I think baby will be about 2 by that time, so can either buy a smaller number of bigger ones, or go into pull ups for a while.

Will have to see how much the nappy bucket does pong. But the big advantage is it can be emptied when I want it to be, straight into the washing machine, and don't have to wait on the convenience of the local council for that. As aless says there is a lot on the web about how to minimise smells from the bucket, and it can't be worse than the disposables, only as bad!
