Hope all is OK skinty. 33 weeks sounds like a fairly safe point - though obviously not as good as 36 weeks+ particularly if you don't want a hospital birth. It may well just be the start of a show though, which can happen weeks before any action, or some erosion on the cervix if its seen any action recently ;)

I've just had a delivery of real nappies from the Nappy Lady. I used disposables with my other 2 children, but decided to at least try the washable route this time round. I can't believe how beautiful they look, at least in their brand new unsullied state :D. They are soooo soft and white and fluffy with lovely soft absorbant looking booster pads. Think bubs is going to look beautiful in them, and as they look incredibly easy to put on, can't see that OH will have a problem with using them either! They look tons better in the flesh than any of the pics of reusables I've seen online.

Nicki - please keep us updated on the nappies! I'm looking to use cloth diapers & as a 1st time mum, I'm totally clueless on what to buy/do with them!

Nicki - what re-usables are they? I am fairly adamant that we will use them too, inside airer / radiator time drying permitting so am starting to read up about them.

Hope everything is OK with everyone - skinty and tia especially right now.

Can't believe am 15 weeks tomorrow - only 25 to go and even better less than 100 work days :D hope my little one is doing OK in there! I next see the midwife the week after next - wonder if they will have a doppler so I can hear the heart beat? That would be lovely!

aless, there were loads of washable nappy sellers at the Baby Show. Is there another London one between now and your EDD? Could be a good way to get to see lots of different types on one day to compare :)

ETA: Yes, there is, in October - http://www.thebabyshow.co.uk/earls-court-london/

Righty, off to see the eye doctor.. Back later xx

    Hi Nicki, aless, always,

Looks like I managed to log on just at the right time! I'm also trying reusuables with my first. I'm 24 weeks. I got a set of newborn and baby Bambino Mios from our local freecycle. I was going to buy the all in one waterproof pant with nappy already inside and I'm hoping these aren't going to leak. Apparently you fold the square nappy and just place inside of the velcro-do up pant bit.

I think I'll see how I go on with these and look at trying a different system for when baby is needing medium to large. The all in ones look good but seem quite expensive.

My nappy lady came back with I should try Bambinex Bambo for the next stages.

elle - thanks for the tip. We were planning on going to the Baby Show anyway, but this is another good reason! My only problem is I don't even know what I'm supposed to be looking for! Seems like there's a zillion different kinds out there...:(

These are the ones I've got:

    http://www.thenappylady.co.uk/public/productdetails.aspx?id=113&scat=5&cat=1&catname=1 Shaped Nappies - Sized

I also bought the new born bambino mios and wraps because I saw them on sale in John Lewis and they looked easy to use and good value. The nappy lady adviser said though that they are a nightmare to use on newborns, because they don't contain the poo properly, and a lot of people who start off with them stop using cloth nappies completely. She recommended that for the first few weeks I'd be better off just using a folded muslin in a good quality wrap, and keeping the bambino mios to use much later on as an added booster. The ones I've got from the nappy lady which I've linked to are likely only to be suitable from about 8 weeks onwards apparently, but that gives me time to use up the disposables I've bought from various places to qualify for their free gifts!

How many of the bambinex did you buy?

I'm also worried about the Bambino poo explosions, as the nappy lady said the same thing but also that when babies start moving around a bit they can dislodge the inner nappy so the bigger ones aren't always very good.

    Bit of a mine field.
