Selling Books on Green Metropolis Discussion (Merged)

Another sale today. Ugly by Constance Briscoe and I added an additional £1 to the postage as it is quite a heavy large paperback. The great thing is that I only listed this book on there yesterday and it's sold already. My mantra is "Never pay full price!"0

The only time I log into Greenmwt now is to remove th ebooks I've sold on ebay or Amazon. My 2 sales earlier in the year appear to have bene it as far as Greenmet was concerned.
I listed about 80 books recently, virtually all of which had either one, or no other copies available so I was very hopeful, but people seem happier paying a premium for them on Amazon.

I've sold a few books on GM over the past 6 months (about 6 books now.)
Sold a book this weekend that is a penny book on Amazon. I would have received only £1.41 for selling the same book via Amazon and have got £3 from GM so I'm happy.
It's the second penny book that I've managed to sell through GM - both non-fiction. It's slow-going but I'm in no rush to part with my books and I'm only selling my own (not buying for profit).
I've rather list penny books on GM and have a very long wait than sell for next to nothing on Amazon.0 -
I've found that cassette audiobooks sell really well on Green Metropolis.
I've been a member since March, and having just checked my account I'm amazed to see I've had 33 sales, and even more amazed that I've only made 4 purchases!0 -
Just wanted to thank the OP as this is a wicked site - i've signed up and recommended it to friends already.
Thanks heaps :TDon't sweat the small stuff ................It's all small stuff!0 -
How do you post the books? i.e. I'm assuming no Jiffy bags... just envelope?0

I use jiffy bags, but I loads because I use them for selling on Amazon and eBay too. I tend to reuse any that people send me things in.ilovefreegle.org - give it away don't throw it away0

Quoting from the Green Metropolis FAQs:-
However to ensure the best rates are obtained when posting books, we recommend all thinner books (up to 25mm thick) are posted in strong ‘Manilla’ type envelopes and sealed with tape, and not sent using padded envelopes. This will prevent extra thickness being added to the book, and will enable the book to be posted as a ‘Large Letter’ instead of a ‘Packet’ and hence will be cheaper to send.0 -
Since royal mail changed postage charges I wrap all the books in brown wrapping paper and attach address & return of address label. The paper i buy in bulk from boot fairs/markets, we recently bought a roll of paper 8inches thick (it's obvs all rolled up so thats a lot of paper) for £3!
Now earnt £327 profit on GM (it's now one year) and only had one book go missing in the post and one book where the buyer felt i had listed it in better condition than when she recievedThis time next year Rodney...0 -
I am new to book selling, but thought I'd share my initial ideas on selling the books I've bought on ebay..
If I can make a profit on Amazon taking into account postage and the cost of a jiffy bag, then I do - even the penny ones.
The rest go on GM where there is a guaranteed profit.Life should be a little nuts; otherwise it's just a bunch of Thursdays strung together.0
