  • I have sold a few books in the last month or so. You need to be really patient though.

I did register and put a couple of books up, but quickly thought better of it and took them down again. Regardless of anything else the book condition ratings are a headache: http://www.greenmetropolis.com/help/faq.asp#FAQ_Q14

The 2nd best rating out of 4 is "Book looks new. May have been read, but no easily visible signs. Cover and pages undamaged, binding as new. No staining or creasing of pages."

Who reads books without leaving any sign of that book being read? These descriptions are totally unrealistic IMO. I much prefer being able to describe what I'm selling to buyers and letting them make up their own minds.

taken from GM site. the 2nd choice probaly means no pages turned back to mark a page etc. you can read a book and not really leave a sign of it being read.

    Book Condition

As New - Book looks brand new.Great for a gift!

Excellent - Book looks new. May have been read, but no easily visible signs. Cover and pages undamaged, binding as new. No staining or creasing of pages. A pleasure to receive!

Good - A used but well cared for book. Undamaged cover, no missing pages, minimum creases to pages, minimal scuff marks and staining. Doesn't automatically open at a particular page. Nice to read!

Acceptable - Minimum damage to cover. All pages intact, but possible minor damage. Some creasing or staining to pages. Very minor writing on inside cover. A well read book, but still has some distance to go. Not a good gift, more a good read.

No way Jos!! - Damage to cover and/or pages, tattered and torn appearance. Binding damaged. It's survived the beach, but only just. Good for filling the bookcase, levelling a table or to fuel the fire. Don't even think of selling it here!

You can still write a description of the book after choosing one of these conditions. Its exactly the same if you were selling books on Amazon or Play.com too Crestfallen

Would those of you who sell books agree that books are slow sellers then? Or are Amaz0n or eb@y better?

Or are books simply not worth selling?

I'm not a huge fan of selling things on eb@y, what with their listing fees, final valuation fees and p@ypal taking their (whatever the percentage is these days) cut from your received payment.

Admittedly it's a couple of years since I sold anything on there, so maybe it's changed, but if they haven't, it hardly seems worth the effort, unless you're selling something of higher value than books.

I only sell hubbies used books on Green Met and sell them very occasionally.

At work we sell books on Amazon - not paperbacks though as the market has fallen out of that. We tend to sell rare or old books

I never sell books on eBay, ever - when we've tried they never sell

Ah, well - mine are all paperbacks. Most are in extremely good or immaculate condition, but even so, it doesn't sound like it's worth the effort.

Thanks to everyone for taking the time to reply though :)

Can anyone help me with Green Metropolis please? I am trying to post a message on its forum but no matter how long I stare at the screen I cannot see any button that says "start new thread" or anything like that. It's driving me crazy!

If you're using Firefox, try a different browser. I've had loads of pages not displaying properly in the last week or so.
    Good luck
