Selling Books on Green Metropolis Discussion (Merged)

Hey
I've sold bout 4 books (out of 16 listed) on Greenmet since Jan.
I've sold many more on play trade and amazon marketplace. Although, depending on the type of book, you get less money on these than greenmet.

I have 1200+ listed on Amazon and approx 140 on greenmet. At one point about 10 days ago I had sold nothing on Amazon for days and yet had had two sales in 2 days from greenmet. Usually though I can reckon on 1-2 sales a month from my usual stock of 140-160 books on greenmet.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. I have sold around 6 books recently on greenmetropolis, found it dead easy to use, and have no complaints so far....Mortgage free 04/03/2025. Thanks to this site and lots of overpayments bit by bit.
Next stop: house repairs, holiday fund, replace our very old cars, more financial security/early retirement savings.🤞0 -
Watch out for the heavy books... even though they allow you to add extra postage, make sure it's gonna cover your costs.
(Recently sold a book for £4 and paid more than that to post it)My TV is broken!
Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j0 -
Thanks everyone.
Joined Green Metropolis this afternoon and listed about a dozen books.
Two have already sold :T . They were children's books and I only put them on as an afterthought! Must mention this to d-i-l as my grandchildren have lots of books which never see the light of day!
Not really expecting the same response for the general adult fiction though, a couple of those already had 10+ copies listed so mine didn't even get onto the page!
Never mind though, I'm very pleased with such a great start.0 -

Well Done!
I suspect these must have had buyers waiting for them as it's unusual to sell so quickly on GM. If you haven't sent them out yet it may be worth checking the going rate for these on amazon, as they could be worth quite a few quid more! Some old childrens books do go for quite a nice price surprisingly!!
Generally GM is quite slow for sales, whilst you may sell faster on amazon you will certainly get less for most of your 'normal' fiction paperbacks and most of these would be better at a carboot or charity shop. If you do decide to list books on amazon do check the weight and postal costs as you can be seriously out of pocket if you price match or undercut professional sellers there that have very low costs in comparison to you.Do You Twitter?

I am very confused now. I've just checked on Amazon (thanks!) and found that one book is going for between £99 and £250  in "good" condition which is what I described mine as on GM. Now, as I haven't yet despatched the book, would I be silly to let it go for £3.00 (less of course the postage)? There are 6 for sale on Amazon ranging from £99 for a "used-good" to £449 for "collectable-very good". I can see why mine was snapped up for GM's price but would it really sell for around £100 on Amazon?
Also, I don't know if I am having a senior moment here but I can't find information on how to become a seller and what the fees are. Can someone point me in the right direction with perhaps a link please? Sorry if it's obvious and I've missed it0 -

No wonder it sold so quick! Now it only depends on the price of your morals whether you send it and regret not getting it's true value or you cancel the sale (very easy on gm) and relist on amazon!(a 10% donation to charity usually will restore your morals!)
If you have an amazon account all you need do on amazon is sign in, go to the item, click 'sell yours' and bingo! The money you receive after fees is given on the page where you confrim the listing, should be about £85 if you price at £99. Don't be tempted to undercut as other sellers are likely using software to price match and you'll just drag the price down.
The other option is to list this on ebay as sometimes (not always) you can get a better price for this sort of book and a faster sale, if you do a good listing with nice pictures and start it at a sensible price. Do a closed listings search to see if any have sold recently and for what price.Do You Twitter?

Yes, a charity donation will restore my morals, especially as I had the e-mail telling me this book had sold within one hour of listing it! I think the buyer knew a lot more than me!
I really wanted to avoid ebay as I have read so many horror stories on here about Paypal, I don't mind using Paypal for buying but really don't want to get into selling with Paypal which is now unavoidable.
Thanks again.0 -
Hi Everyone,
This is my first attempt at starting a new thread, so be gentle... I wonder if anyone has had any dealings with the Green Metropolis website, I'm thinking of listing a few books with them, but as I've stumbled across the site via a search engine, am wary of doing so....
Thanks
