Chortle wrote:My bad news is that I somehow had been working off of the wrong numbers for my closing February debt balance, which had thrown my 'current' debt off iyswim.
So instead of the £7.1k I thought I was down to at the moment, its actually over £7.5kI was trying to get below £7k by the end of March, so obviously thats gone out of the window, because it was never really possible anyway!
I could have kicked myself yesterday when I realised - in fact I did!
Ahh crap! I hate it when you work off incorrect figures, it makes you feel like a right numpty when you figure out why things don't add upSorry to hear that Chortle, but I suppose there's a good side to it: Although you're a monkey above your target, would have you scrimped and saved if you'd realised this? I'm sure the challenge and impending deadline made you even more moneysaver conscious, so although you're not going to hit your target, the next one will be a lot easier!
dottyanne wrote:Well my bad news is my mortgage and other DD's were returned to the bank unpaid, my o2 mobile has been cut off and my BT landline cant make outside calls till ive paid that too............can it really get any worse??
Eeek, sorry to hear about all that dottyanne. I suppose if you could change your O2 phone to PAYG then you could still receive incoming calls if you couldn't afford to make outgoing calls. As for your DD's that were returned unpaid, why not reclaim your bank charges than let it slide? It'll give you something to do (chasing banks for money seems quite good fun heh). Head up soldierksh123 wrote:funny thing, my bad news is currently making me feel rather liberated! Last week the bank shut down all my DDs (cos my overdraft's out of control and little or no money coming in). I know its a fool's paradise but just now I have this great sense of freedom!
Usually I spend all my time worrying about paying this and that, getting money into the bank on time etc etc. But now its out of my hands = whhheeeyy!!
Don't worry I do know I have to face the reality but I'm enjoying this bit!
Ahh ksh123, that's not good news :-\ You should really try and reclaim control of your account. If things are tight, pay less on your debts. Your living comes first, they come second! Again if your account is a mess, see if you can reclaim all those bank charges you've doubtlessly had. That could be a nice lump sum to get you setup and back on track again. Good luck!0 -
My bad news is that i cant get through to Barclaycard to cancel my PPI. Have been on hold 10 times already this morning.
I know it sounds trivial but im sick of paying them more than i have to (I already pay 27.9% interest, cant move it as my credit rating isnt good enough)0 -
Bad news is that i may not get sponsored for University by my employer even though the company stress that they are very proactive in staff development and have sponsored 3 other males in the section over the last few years. And the female director wonders why all the female staff leave her directorate and she is left with no higher female managers.0

How would I get them to pay back the bank charges? They are for returned DDs cos no £ to cover them.
I really am trying to get control back - BUT I hadn'tthought of reducing the DD amounts. Will they let me do that? How does it work?
Very good idea thank you.Stop looking for answers....

Hi everyone,
Its been a bit of a rubbish day today! I don't know if anyone keeps up-to-date with the news in the Good News Thread (we're all so miserable here - ha ha!) but some of you will know that I've been doing a lot of babysitting recently and over the past 8 days have made £130 - which sounds fantastic, but....
I've been babysitting over the past week for a family having A LOT of problems - the mother is an incontinent alcoholic who the father has kicked out...but...she is next door (adjoined house) with her (dying) mother and father. The dad (of the kids) works very funny hours and so far I've worked on Tuesday evening last week, all day on Sunday from 6am to 4pm and last night from 6.30pm to 7am this morning (sleep over) then straight to work.
The babysitting bit is fine, kids are lovely and quiet but I just can't deal with all the family problems that I am getting drawn into. I was rung and told to keep the kids away from the window last night as their mother had jumped out of the window next door and her father had had to call an ambulance. That's not just it - the kids' dad is constantly late home (after he says he'll be) - this morning I'd asked him countless times if he could promise he would be home by 6.30am as I had to get home and get ready for work before my train. You guessed it, he was home at 7.05am - very frustrating as of course, I couldn't just leave.
He also tends to ask me to do housework and I 'm not trying to be a jobsworth here but this is a bit too much to ask - he even asks me if I'll make him cups of tea before he leaves the house! He's a bit all over the place - asked me to fix his internet connection last night (I had no idea and didn't even attempt it). His house also smells and overall the whole situation makes me uneasy.
I mean its good money but I am getting far too drawn into a very complicated personal family situation and this isn't in (I feel) the 'job description' of a babysitter. My OH isn't happy with me being involved in this situation and I feel so uneasy about it all (especially the dad saying make sure you put the inside lock on as she - the mother - might try to break in, one evening!). Anyway, I have written the dad a letter as I'm no use at difficult conversations in person or on the phone and will post through his door tonight, just saying I'm getting too involved and I'm not happy. Not easy to do as my instinct is to help out but I feel I've enough to worry about just now.
Anyway that's my story! Another bad news story from today to follow!
scottishspendaholic xMBNA = £4,000 / Next = £925 (approx. tbc on 19/8)
Tesco = £2,910.11 / Smile overdraft = £500
Bank of Scotland = £2,782.830 -
Next story! This one WILL be shorter!
I sold a Nigella Lawson pestle and mortar recently for £21 plus £6 postage. I posted it on Monday and the buyer emailed me today to say it had broken in the post so I've had to refund it. I had already transferred most of my paypal money into my bank account - ready to make a PIN money payment on my credit card soon so had to scrabble around to get the right amount to pay her back and am now worrying about paying my eBay fees (as I had left part of this refund money to do this).
More frustrating as its taken me about six weeks to sell the bl**dy item as I had sold it first (for £5 more!) to a non paying bidder and had to open a formal eBay dispute etc. etc.
I know its my fault as I probably didn't pack it well but I did wrap it tightly in loads of bubble wrap and put in a sturdy box so I also feel that the post office/Royal Mail might be partly to blame!
Grrrrr...

Ask the person to send it back to you- are you sure it is broken
Not that I am suspicious or anything and check to see if you can claim for it0
