An ex landlord started all the service charges nonsense on me and wanted a few grand each out of us all. Nobody paid and there was nothing he could do, evict us all? lol

In the end I told him because of his persistent and threatening letters that he had broken the terms of the lease by not leaving me to enjoy the property peacefully and thus the contract was null and void and I was free to move out, which I did and never paid a penny in the end anyway lol.

It's a private estate, with three blocks of flats. Nearly all of the flats are privately owned, but over half of them are then leased back to the local authority/council for council housing.

The surcharge is built into the lease, and if I refuse to pay, I will be in breach of terms. They only have to force out one person and everyone will pay. I can't afford to move anywhere else as these are the cheapest flats in the area, so being forced out of my lease would be catastrophic for me financially.

The council/local authority, will pay, buy-to-let's will force their tenants to pay, so those few of us who have mortgages and live here don't have enough support to refuse it. I can't just walk away from it and move elsewhere, and if I end up in dispute with the freeholder, I could lose a hell of a lot more than £3k.

I truly appreciate all the advice, but even the solicitors I work for can't see a way out. I'd even have to declare the payment to a potential buyer if I tried to sell!!

Thanks for listening though - you are all fantastic xx

I got up at 6am to do a car boot sale and took.............£6.80.

Then DH went to Pets at Home to get dog food and saw big bags of dry food on offer at £6.99. After he paid he realised the bag at the front of the pile that he picked up was 'gold - for fussy eaters' (my dogs are certainly not) and had paid £12.99 for it. Did he go back and complain? Of course not

Well I think I top that today you guys :$

Today I went for a nice picnic with friends at a local wetland beauty spot which was fantastic and lovely until I slipped in to the river back first :(

I've ruined some lovely shorts and a shirt but fortunately all my valuables were safe near the coolbox and not on my person. My £300 watch, luckily, seemed unharmed both when it was submersed and when I threw it on to the bank *Phew*

The embarassement factor of having to spend most the afternoon and car journey back home practically naked wasn't that bad though in todays weather :D
