The Bad News Thread

Guess I have to confess here.
My bad news is that I bought a few things this weekend that I am now starting to regret.
£55 on two new pairs of work trousers
£6 on a going out bag
£20 on some new dance trousers - do use these often, 2/3 times per week
£30 on new jeans - these are going back.
I guess if I had bought them all separately then I would nt feel so bad (especially as the work trousers are very much needed) but that amount in one go makes me feel sick.
Its the MSE coming out in me, thinking - do I really need these?!0 -
Wow dinkylou, I'm glad you're feeling better and decided to return the jeans. I suppose it's not all that bad, I mean £110 isn't as bad as several hundred :-\ Congrats on doing the right thing and confessing your sins
Hopefully you'll use it as motivation to avoid temptations in the future
cantcope: £20 for a months shopping!? Eeek, can you maybe borrow a couple of notes from a friend or something? Not an ideal situation but at least you get to eat :-\ Life sucks sometimes I know, but your strength now will pay dividents when you're debt freeKeep at it matey
newmum1: I know how you feel to a degree, about not wanting to work again when you've been off but picture your debt free life and I'm sure the motivation will come back. After a few days you'll forget you ever left
Hipkiss: Do you temp or is it the end to a permanent job?0 -
My bad news is that I somehow had been working off of the wrong numbers for my closing February debt balance, which had thrown my 'current' debt off iyswim.
So instead of the £7.1k I thought I was down to at the moment, its actually over £7.5kI was trying to get below £7k by the end of March, so obviously thats gone out of the window, because it was never really possible anyway!
I could have kicked myself yesterday when I realised - in fact I did!Highest Debt (Sept 04) -> £41,300Debt Free - August 2006!!

I have bad news for those of you who like bad news - but it is good news for those who don't like bad news - and that is that I only have good news
Sorry (but to OP I sincerely do hope that you win your tribunal... keep us posted)0 -
My bad news is that we are on strike today over the local government pensions scheme and we don't get paid for today. On top of that I need to pay back my pension contribution for the unpaid day which means in total I'm down about 100 quid! :mad:

Hi silverelephant,
God its causing chaos, isn't it! Not many schools open (my OH's is though so he's not pleased, wouldn't be striking though as he's a teacher), no buses etc.
Have a nice day anyway and I hope you get the result you want!
scottishspendaholic xMBNA = £4,000 / Next = £925 (approx. tbc on 19/8)
Tesco = £2,910.11 / Smile overdraft = £500
Bank of Scotland = £2,782.830 -
funny thing, my bad news is currently making me feel rather liberated! Last week the bank shut down all my DDs (cos my overdraft's out of control and little or no money coming in). I know its a fool's paradise but just now I have this great sense of freedom!
Usually I spend all my time worrying about paying this and that, getting money into the bank on time etc etc. But now its out of my hands = whhheeeyy!!
Don't worry I do know I have to face the reality but I'm enjoying this bit!Stop looking for answers....
The most you can hope for are clues.....:)0 -
Hi guys, I'm a newbie really but a long-time lurker.
Just had to rant here, though I'm surprised I haven't seen this mentioned on the forum in the last few days by anyone else.
The thing is EGG, with whom I have a credit card (and whom I generally rated quite highly before this), have just decided to increase their balance transfer rate to 2.5%, and, worse, they are removing the limit on what you pay to transfer a balance.
So my anniversary 0% offer, which would have been a great 5 months from May of 0% on £8,500 and which I was pretty much depending on, is now going to cost me, erm, over £200 just to make the transfer... I will have to do some serious recalculations to see if it's worth it for the interest I'd save on leaving it where it is at the moment.
Plus I was off sick all last week which has cost me the best part of £300 (I am self-employed). So all in one go I'm facing being £500 down on where I thought I was - it really doesn't motivate you to scrimp a few pence here and there does it?
Anyway - sorry my first proper post is such a negative rant - I'm normally such a positive person (honest!) but I just feel everything on top of me at the moment.
Good vibes to everyone here on this fantastic board.
HFMEverything turns out all right in the end. If it's not all right, it's not the end.
