  • A month ago the catch broke on our dishwasher although it did still work. I called CDA and had to pay £89 call out and was told someone would call back but they never did. A week later I chased it up and was told the engineer would come out to see what part was required. I did tell them it was the door catch but they still sent an FX engineer to check what part to order. When he ordered it it was out of stock so had to wait another week. After the part was delivered they sent a Samsung engineer to fit the catch. He completely dismantled all the door parts and broke the spring mechanism to close the door so couldn't put it back together. After 4 hours of trying he gave up and was going to leave the machine with the door open and hanging off on one side with all the internal wires and parts hanging out. My husband had to ask him to remove the door as it was a trip hazard for our 3 year old. We have been left with the dishwasher shell with wires hanging out and a metal arm protruding out of the bottom so not left in the safest state. The engineer called CDA to say that it couldn't be fixed so would need replacing. They were suppose to call back but as no-one called I phoned them to see when the replacement would arrive. I was told I would not be getting a replacement as it was over 2 years old but they could offer me a discount on a new one. The discount worked out about £50 off RRP after taking into account the £89 call out charge and it didn't even include fitting or taking away the old one. I feel like I have been conned as it was initially only a door catch that needed replacing but the engineer pulled the whole thing apart to make it a write-off so their sales team could talk me into buying another useless CDA product. The 5 year part warranty is completely useless. If they hadn't taken the £89 I could have put it towards another brand. I am hoping they will just send the replacement free of charge (although I've still had to pay £89) as they are at fault without me taking matters further but will try Watchdog or a solicitor if necessary. I will update the thread when they decided what they are prepared to do.

Yes the 5 year warranty is a complete joke - you are definitely not the first to be ripped off by CDA in this way.

You don't need a solicitor, you can make a claim in the small claims court online and at low cost.

Just thought I'd add my experience with CDA....
We had a new kitchen in 2007, which included a CDA integrated dishwasher with 1 year labour, 5 years parts warranty.
The dishwasher failed in June 2011. Called CDA, paid the £89 and an engineer duly came. He replaced the water valve and main circuit board before tracking the problem down to a broken wire in the wiring harness going through the door. He said the constant opening and closing of the door probably damaged the harness. I refrained from stating the obvious sarcastic response! :)
In April 2012 a similar fault occurred, so I phoned CDA and said I thought it was related to the previous fault. I still had to pay the £89 as repairs are only guaranteed for 6 months. Same engineer came, fault was where I told him, although a different wire this time. He repaired it and replaced the plastic trunking the wires run through.
It's still working, but if it fails again I know where to look and will try to fix it myself or buy a different dishwasher. It's out of the warranty now anyway.

  • I have been a kitchen fitter for many years and have fitted many different appliance brands, you do get the occasional problem with any manufacturer, that's the way things go, but generally things get sorted very quickly most customer service centres are very efficient and customer focused. Then there is CDA, in my opinion the general quality of these appliances is at best very poor, almost every appliance from this company has a problem and their answer is to send an engineer out, which is normally approx 10 to 14 days, (there must be a lot of problems if it takes an engineer 2 weeks to come out to you). It has now got to the point where I refuse to fit them if they are specified on a job, the constant revisit after revisit back to jobs to finish the kitchen fit off once their engineer has been plays havoc with work schedules.
Hope this helps anyone reading this, cannot stress enough to steer clear at all costs.
  • Hi

My advice would be spend a little bit more and go for Neff, Bosch or Smeg appliances I sell all of these brands including CDA and have heard a lot of negative things about them. The other brands are good mid range appliances

I have a CDA washer/drier that is still under their 5 year parts warranty. When claiming due to a faulty motor mounting they told me they cannot repair this part so would offer me a discount on a new machine. The discount they offered still meant the machine would cost more than i could purchase any where else online or in store.

Is this fair? My suggestion is to steer well clear of CDA, their products are unreliable and in my case i think down right dangerous. That and their dishonest warrantys make them a company to steer well away from.

  • Dont touch cda with a barge pole.

I have a new warmer draw under warranty .. And i am still waiting almost 2 months for a replacement fan to be shipped from china,,when i ring cda ,,theu are useless and say it will arrive when it arrives !!!!
  • My cda washer does the same, and double oven been replaced once for rust after just over 12 months, it's started corroding again and the condensation has run down my cupboards and ruined my new doors, awaiting engineer, wish I hadn't bought them!,,,:rotfl:

hi i have had nothing but problems with a ice and water machine for two years have to wait weeks to call then breaks again. they have finally took the water machine to see if they can fix it they've had it 3 months and keep saying they will ring me back but never do so i have to ring them and every time they say the bloke who is fixing it is on holiday. bad surface and would never get anything from them again just dont know what to do cause i have give them 2 years of fixing it . STAY CLEAR FROM CDA
  • It's a shame that there are hardly any British domestic appliance brands available any more.

CDA is pretty much the only one, and that is relatively unknown and definately not a household brand. Most of the English sounding brands like Hotpoint, Whirlpool are American.

Even then CDA are probably rebadged chinese equipment.
