Middle 30's with 20 years' worth of professional experience: 10 years odd jobs, p/t jobs, contract jobs, temp jobs (non office work); 10 years office jobs.
Currently working f/t in Bristol for £15K pa plus 10% pension contribution paid by my employer. Rent is more than half my monthly salary... Job title is administrator, but in fact it should be 'department !!!!!!': I do all the donkey work.
No perks and overtime unpaid. My younger colleagues (same job title, but more responsibilities, more interesting tasks, and better salaries) get laptops and travel to meet clients.
Salary frozen in 2009 (unlike the rent); do not expect anything either this year either as managers want to reduce staff levels: at the interview to discuss my performance, I was told they did not see me staying in the company for another 12 or 24 months.
Had joined the SIP when started but will have to sell the available shares when I resign (probably before the end of the summer), and would have had to hold them until 2011 to get any benefits from the scheme. Will also lose 25% of the shares' value because of the exchange rate they apply (the company I work for is Australian so when I bought the shares my GBP contribution was converted into AUD and when I sell the shares the sale proceeds will have to be converted back into GBP).
