  • 25, recent graduate, healthcare assistant for an agency on £6.50-£8.50 p/h for last 3 years and looking for something better.

Benefits - none really but super flexi time so can choose when i work (not always a good thing financially) and always work in different places so get great variety.
  • I'm 21 and I work as a nursing assistant in a psychiatric hospital, basic pay is £6.17/hour + unsociable hours + an allowance for working on an intensive care ward, works out at about £1k/month after tax.

Currently waiting to start my Alevels in preparation for application to medical school where I hope to specialise in Psychiatry. I had toyed with the idea of training to be a mental health nurse, but I think I'll always regret not trying to get into medical school if I don't try!

I used to work in telesales at a local double glazing firm. Hours were different each week and although I did set hours, they wouldn't put me on the books so I have always been classed as self employed for tax purposes.

Minimum wage plus 2% commission on any sales, and £3.50 per dem/lead. Not a lot.

Are there any other double glazing telesales people here? Would love to learn if this is the going rate, or whether I was always underpaid and overworked!
  • 23 years old.

Domestic Assistant in a care home, min wage, 22 hours per week. :o

I guess its a job, not really what I would do for ever obviously but alot better than being a benefit scrounge.

Perks - err none as such, keeps me slim. :)

Will look into something with computers when recession gets better.

Living at home with parents so can save most of the money as it happens although its not really very much money!
  • I'm 24 and a Purchasing Manager in oil & gas. My basic is 33k with an end of year bonus (normally around 5k)
  • I'm 24 and a engineer basic pay 26k + overtime + overseas allowance = total around 45k + bonus (not had one for 2 years now tho!) + company car + pension 7.5% + health care.

Might sound like a lot for a young guy but I work a lot of hours whilst I am away and I spend 75% of the year abroad / away from home, plus the tax man takes a huge chunk of it as well
