Business Analyst in insurance/IT, £59k, 30 years old.

Formerly worked as a contractor which paid nearly double, but the benefits of it being 5 minutes from home and the security with a new baby prompted me to switch to permanent.

I absolutely hate it (the career choice, not the job itself) - IT and Business Analysis is unbelievably tedious. But I'm pretty much trapped, as without commuting to London, I will struggle to match my income elsewhere, and a change of career would mean a significant drop. :(

Plan to "enjoy" working close to home for another three years while plans for baby no.2 get underway and boost my CV with some extra qualifications, before returning to contracting - pay and tax benefits make it a no-brainer...
  • Scuba Diver. Contract to various oil companies through a London agency. Depends on project (support crew or active) but usually about £300 GBP a day. Few benefits and pay a lot for travel insurance. Travel is great in Abu Dhabi/ Dubai mainly but longs stints. Spent 2 months there a few months back. Waiting in a decompression chamber for most of it. When active you usually do a day or night shift repairing valves and lines.

Dog Groomer, self-employed. Aiming to earn £25k gross working from home. That's on a fairly part-time basis. I am expensive so quality customers rather than quantity. I will be having a lot of long weekends.
