I feel uncomfortable here. Everyone seems to have good money and career here. I'm 33 , work part-time in a sandwich shop £5.85/h and part-time self-employed cleaner £10/h. Together: about £250/week after tax. I need £100 per week more. Trying to set up a proper cleaning business. Also doing a bookkeeping course , home study.0

A SSgt in the Army (Armoured Reconnaissance) high band LvL 3 (of 7) £38750 rising to £39700 (LvL4) next month (Soldiers get 2 pay rises a year, this is my second)
We have 2 pay bands -low and high, each rank has about 6-7 increments (increment rises are the second pay rise)
Full pension after 22 years service (depends on rank in last 2 years) can do more than 22 years if accepted for longer service
many excellent benefits
We don't work 9-5. sometimes I can work 10 hours in a week and other times i can work 100.
I get paid the same whether I do 10 hours or 100 hours.
30 odd days leave a yearIf you find yourself in a fair fight, then you have failed to plan properly
I've only ever been wrong once! and that was when I thought I was wrong but I was right0 -

Nil (well, only benefits unfortunately) - can't work at the moment due to ill health but desperate to. Worked all my life and hate this situation.
For reference, if it's of any use to anyone, my last employment ended Nov 2008, I was 38, manager with a well known bank.
Salary - £48k plus profit sharing (10% before credit crisis), plus performance bonus (approx 10%), plus nice new car, plus healthcare, 33 days holiday plus bank holidays, pension etc quite a few other financial services type benefits.
I was one of the lower paid amongst my peers, other guys my age and level were on £60k basic and above with similar add-ons.
I realised I had a decent income but took most of this for granted at the time. Puts it into perspective when you see some figures on here and taking into account my circumstances now. Oh, how times have changed....0 -
Don't know if this is of interest or helps anyone, but here is my salary progression within banking. It might be useful for people of a similar age in different jobs to see how this compares to them.
Was ambitious from day one starting as an Admin Clerk at 19 and tried to work my way up as high as possible, to the lower level managerial roles in my case. I took all the exams I could and moved banks a few times (and to different offices within some banks around the different countries of the UK) to get to where I wanted to be. It's fairly low paid for a long time in the low grades, but the pay-off comes with perseverance with nice salaries and perks in the managerial grades.
1989, age 19, salary - £5200, (total with bonuses £6240)
1995, age 25, salary - £9000, (£10800)
1996, age 26, salary - £13500, (£16200)
1999, age 29, salary - £18000, (£21600)
2003, age 33, salary - £25000 + car, first managerial role, (£30000)
2007, age 37, salary - £36000 + car, (£43200)
2008, age 38, salary - £48000 + car, (£57600)
All above figures are basic salary. Usually also received Profit Sharing of approx 10% of basic, plus personal performance bonus which was normally also around 10% of basic too, plus normal banking benefits. I'll put total including approx bonuses in brackets.0 -
i'm 19, work as a customer consultant in a non commission based shop.
I get £6.41/hour then if we hit target we get a bonus based on how much we sold
also I'm a student photographer so spend every spare moment doing photoshoots for local models/weddings/families to get some extra cash in my pocket.
My student overdraft is still feeling the strain though.0
