I feel uncomfortable here. Everyone seems to have good money and career here. I'm 33 , work part-time in a sandwich shop £5.85/h and part-time self-employed cleaner £10/h. Together: about £250/week after tax. I need £100 per week more. Trying to set up a proper cleaning business. Also doing a bookkeeping course , home study.

Don't worry about it Amara, everyone has different lives and different priorities. I've not ever been very career minded person and have just 'fallen into' many off my jobs.

31 (32 later this year) Council worker, was Performance Management Assistant (just a fancy title) before they moved me to a different post cos they said my old one wasn't funded (for the past 3.5 years, was never supposed to stay this long - it's boring) £16830 pa. This year, I will make a change!!

  • I work in a well known high street book/stationery/newspaper shop with a blue and white logo. I earn minimum wage with staff discount on things that nobody can afford to buy.
  • first paid job was 3.24 per hour after uni...

now self employed, its a considerable more than that amount now.

I have been lucky enough before going self employed to have my salary double twice in the last five years.

For all the people out there who are struggling. It will get better thats for sure. I used to work 60 hours per week, in an extremely stressful job. Work hard and always look to learn and become better in what you do, you will go far.

sometimes its about being in the right place at the right time but all your hard work will pay off one day.
