"Dave is doing voluntary work instead of looking for a job....This is wholly wrong and a cynical exploitation of the benefits system."
#1668
It's the "instead of looking for a job" bit that is wrong, not doing voluntary work.
If he was doing voluntary work AND looking for a job, he would be a saint. But taking unemployment benefit while not looking for a job is fraud, no matter what you do with your time.0 -

Thats because i never said it.0 -
geordie_joe wrote: »No, I meant the bit where he says "doing voluntary work is defrauding the benefit system"
I didnt say it, therefore you wont be able to find it.
She / He is trying to divert attention.0 -
Motor guy was arguing that volunteering is not work and therefore Dave was defrauding the benefits system by volunteering instead of working in paid employment.
Almost. I have no issues with Dave doing volunteer work, its the fact that hes claiming benefits whilst clearly not looking for work and brags about how hes used the benefits system to pay off his mortgage over those 20 years. That is wholly wrong.
I would have thought it was logistically impossible to not be able to get ANY job for 20 years.
I don't think anyone said that the act of doing voluntary work in and of itself is defrauding the benefits system.
No, noone ever did. But fair play to Linda, here we are now debating who said what, rather than the fact Dave is cheating the benefits system and wholly proud of it.0 -

And we're talking about a span of 20 years...
Thats a desperately long time to have no job at all. Nothing. 20 years of no paid employment.
Or maybe he just likes working for the charity and claiming benefits instead?0 -
I am now pretty sure this thread has been wrecked by a case of trolling; this debate has nothing to do with which jobs pay what.
Perhaps after Xmas those in Money Saving Towers can hive off this discussion into its own thread?0 -
The thread was swimming along nicely until recently...
It isn't hard to know what to post in this thread 'list your job and wage' but some people can't resist trolling I guess. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
