  • I am 28 and earn £26000 a year in London, pay review due in January (fingers majorly crossed).

My job is to basically make either a sketch or idea given to me by the creative director happen.

Interestingly there doesn't seem to be that many people working in the creative industries on here....
  • peri music teacher. £21050, plus around another £1500 in extra gigs as a singer. 25 years old. As a musician, its not too bad, but hoping to train to qualified teacher, one of the reasons being better earning potential. In past 2 years had 1% rise...

I'm 28, work as an engineer offshore, will earn £43,000-£44,000 this tax year.

In previous years I have earned...

    07/08...£14,000est
    08/09...£17,035
    09/10...£21,789
    10/11...£23,865
    11/12...£23,465
    12/13...£42,487

Looking at that my gross income has tripled since 2007 and the money I'm earning now would have been beyond my wildest dreams even 2 years ago. That said, I don't feel that much more wealthy than I did then, it's amazing how quickly your lifestyle adjusts to account for any additional income.

Interested to know what kind of engineering you do? I see Subsea7 are doing engineering conversion programmes - tempting, but I see the cost of living in Aberdeen is excessive and I don't know if I want to be holed up in that one location forever..

36, waitress at the moment on approx £200pw. I like the people I work with and its an active job but the pay is rubbish and i never know if ill have shifts from one week to the next.
I've previously done a range of jobs, Wish I could find something I really loved! Also I've moved from the city to the sticks so have to make do with what's available to me. At least I have a job, thankful for that!

Uni admin £29000 a year for a 4 day week (my choice) plus 7 weeks hol's, final salary pension scheme and free gym membership. Sounds good but I don't enjoy it, being a uni they require everyone to have a degree and talk up all jobs to make them "graduate" jobs even when they don't need to be.
  • info and advice worker for a charity, 21 hours per week, no pay rise in past 4 years. Take home = £1,064 per calendar month. Includes £56 in lieu of pension. 5 weeks annual leave. Supply own car, mileage paid @ 45p per mile if used on business.
If you have a talent, use it in every which way possible. Don't hoard it. Don't dole it out like a miser. Spend it lavishly like a millionaire intent on going broke.

That sounds amazing to me! But I know very well how it doesn't matter if you don't enjoy it.

  • I've been a sound engineer (work on tv programs) for the past 14 yrs.

    21 - £200pw for a 60hr week
    22 - £12k
    23 - £15k
    24 - £18k
    25 - £24k
    28 - £27k
    29 - £30k
    30 - £31k

Now I'm 34 and am self employed. Get around £250-£280 plus vat per day now (usually 10hrs). But only cover people's holidays/illness so all my bookings are never more than 2 weeks in advance. Usually work 6-12 days per month but would love it to be more. I work shifts, weekends, bank holidays and overnights. Live News never sleeps :o

Oh and I earn about £30pm from my doggy website too :j
She believed she could, so she did.
