  • After 2 years as a full time carer I am now doing two part time jobs, admin assistant working 20 hrs a week earning £11k and a payroll manager doing about 5 hours a week earning £12 an hour. I am still a carer its so hard juggling it all but I would rather be working than on benefits any day.

Does some voluntary work? He does more hours than you, and me too!

    How do we know that?

To be honest, your posts just come over as jealous over someone who is more successful than you.

I genuinely laughed out loud at that! :rotfl:

Successful at defrauding the benefit system?

I'm certainly not jealous of someone who ekes out a living on benefits and spends their time avoiding paid jobs.

Unfortunately there isn't enough paid jobs to go round everyone in this country so I'm glad he is doing the charity work rather than nothing at all. There are a lot of people in public sector non jobs that I would rather not being paying for and they get a lot more money than basic benefits.

I would rather he was looking for work rather than fleecing the benefit system personally.

There are plenty of jobs out there. You just have to go looking for them. The problem with this country is - as Dave has proved - that exploiting the benefits system has become a lifestyle choice for many.

20 years is a very very long time not to be able to find a job. It strikes me that he has chosen not to.

How is doing voluntary work "defrauding the benefit system"?
You should read up on the rules before posting false statements.

Because hes claiming benefits from a system designed to help those who are unemployed get back in to work. It is designed as a short term support system.

Dave has clearly chosen not to seek out a paid job, instead chosing to do charity work, however he is claiming monies set aside for those actually seeking work.

I've seen people unemployed for a month and get a job i've seen people unemployed for a year and getting a job, but to say you cant get a paid job for 20 years is quite frankly taking the !!!! in anybodys books.

As he is taking money from the benefits system when he has no inclination in getting a full time paid job, you are quite honestly defending the indefensible.

So are you admitting you were wrong saying that doing voluntary work is "defrauding the benefit system"?

I never once said that doing voluntary work was "defrauding the benefit system". How could it possibly be?

Up until recently i worked for the Charity Commission so i have quite an understanding of Charities, how they work and how important volunteers are.

However claiming benefits for 20 years, when you have no intentions at all of looking for a paying job, IS defrauding a benefits system designed to help people back in to work, NOT to sponsor the lifestyle of individuals who chose not to work.

Don't try and backtrack now. You openly said that he was "Successful at defrauding the benefit system". It's there in black and white, you have no defense. You were wrong, admit it.

And how are you linking that to doing voluntary work?

I have no issues with people doing voluntary work, i have great respect for that.

There are quite a lot of people receiving "care in the community" and hopefully kept more or less on the level by the use of complex chemicals - When I was a lad, over 50 years ago, these chemicals were not available and there were massive institutions ringing London just inside what is now the M25 (I especially remember the section between "Chessington World of Adventure" and the Derby racecourse.)

Many of these institutions have been redeveloped at massive profit; they have become redundant, in spite of the multi million increase the population of the country
