No, most people read the Sun and watch the News and form their opinions based on what media outlets tell them and what Dave down the road tells them. Most people are influenced by a climate of fear and whispers of discontent.

This isn't Ask the Audience on Who Wants to be a Millionaire. Just because a large percentage of people hold a certain opinion, doesn't mean the rest of us are automatically wrong.

I don't think lack of information is the only problem. I think lack of undertanding/interest/education is at least as great. Why release reams of information on th economy if the public manage ten posts on economy and 10 pages on race?:rolleyes: . We bring this on ourselves.

a lot of the immigration threads on the board that is the subject of this thread are both (a) repetitive and (b) of questionable relevance to the point of the board.

i don't think there is really a freedom of speech issue here, which misskool constantly refers to - the threads that keep appearing just aren't really relevant a lot of the time- when this happens with other subjects, the thread gets quickly moved to discussion time / the arms / whatever. the immigration threads need to be treated in the same way, especially when the first post is borderline relevant and the rest descends into a general discussion about immigration with no relevance to the subject of the board.

if it isn't going to be moved, then perhaps all the threads which always end up discussing the same old issues (which is what the people starting the threads seem to want) can they at least be combined into one thread by the board guides. please?
