They are BBC YOUGOV and MORI polls. Are those institutions anti-immigration?! I suspect they are polling for valid concerns rather than having any dark agenda. At least some don't wish to subdue legitimate opinion on important issues.

No those polling companies are not ostensibly anti-immigration, but posting their poll on DD's thread is off-topic and possibly anti-immigration.

    If Abuse disagree, that's fine.

    1. I don't understand these "I am leaving" threads!

    2. Does anyone really take dervish et al's posts seriously? I have always read them as someone trying to provoke a reaction (ie troll) but to the point of ridicule, almost satire. I tend to ignore them and am always a bit surprised when people actually "bite". If you are really offended then report the post to abuse and ignore the poster - they will go away if no reaction.

Strapped, i take them seriously. Look, dervish may just be a troll, but I react on a very visceral level to anyone suggesting we vote for the BNP or supporting their rhetoric, because I lived in blackburn and saw how much damage they were doing there.

II find threads being hijacked by BNP party members throughout the board. Frankly, I'm close to leaving that particular board. I can't tolerate the BNP, and their continuous propaganda makes my blood boil every time I read the forum.

I like the rest of the site, but frankly if the only choice is between BNP propaganda, and leave the board altogether, I'd chose to leave the board.

You don't have to read the posts written in support of the BNP.

The majority of those BNP posters have their beliefs ridiculed by everyone else.

By censoring them you give credence to their posts and beliefs.

I think they should be allowed to post, I don't like what they stand for, but surely its better to discuss it than censor it?

Good point - there are always people out there who will fall for the scaremongering perpetrated by the likes of the BNP

I guess a sensible compromise would be to allow but monitor it but then again, racist posts are banned from these forums, and rightly so, and some of the more sensitive readers of these forums may take offence at things others do not and then leave the site owner open to court proceedings over the content allowed on these forums. Martin Lewis is sadly more liable for what is said than the poster(s) here.

But, uktyler, the posts have little or nothing to do with the actual board they are posting on. They might be on topic in the arms. But they have nothing to do with the economy, recession, or house prices. And, it's not even the case you can just ignore the immigration threads because the views are regularly put into other threads.

I'm not asking anything very special, merely that topics aren't hijacked, and are kept on topic for the board they are posted in.

Apart from taking the Mickey a bit, it was relevant as people should n't be so sensitive to what is the opinion of a large majority of the population, as attested by the polls. That's why I posted them.

Actually, I disagree. It brings the famous quote ''Its the economy, Stupid'' to mind. We are approaching one of those occasions where we can make a sttment about various policies, including economic policy, and be heard. It is shocking to me some of the reasoning behind some of those plainly rather unintelligent posts: but to be it shows we need more discussion about various economic policy: not less.

Somewhat recently I started a thread asking people about economic policy, aside from other political leanings. It was more interesting, though of course, not popular enough to be a mega length one....why? Frankly I thinkits because while people are worrying about how many foreigners are in their supermarket -they can understand/identify a foreign accent/skin colour, they don't have a grasp or understanding of more complex policy.

Economic policy has never been more important. I desperately wish I understood it better (hence me trying to instigate a discussion about it)

FWIW MArtin: an unbiased explanation of different parties economic policy would be of huge benefit to your readership/audiance to help them make their own minds up. Political reportage is more about wit and catchphrase than explanation of economic policy to ''normal people'' and very inkeeping with your ethos of consumer power: how often do we get to make this choice, after all....and that so many people are concerned with racism due to lack of understanding of other areas shows this is one of the many, many undereducated decisions we will be making.

ETA: I bumped that thread. 10 measely posts (mor than one of them mine, lol) on economic policy in the economics forum. This could signify any number of things, I think its highly liely one of those things could be we are all more ignorant than we like to convey! I hope that the reasonable posters genuinely interested in economics/our economy will contribute to the thread.

I would agree with you, lostinrates, particular parties programs with regard to the economy etc is fair game. Even if one of them is the BNP. I think the conversation would be very short, though, because none of them are willing to say anything much about the policies they intend to carry out after the next general election.
