To remind them that I never joined, I invested a quid on the following recorded delivery snail mailDear Book Club,
Today I received a book from you with an invoice and membership pack.
Please note that….
I HAVE NEVER SIGNED UP FOR YOUR BOOK CLUB.
I DO NOT WANT THIS BOOK OR ANY OTHER BOOK FROM YOU.
YOU MUST CANCEL MY MEMBERSHIP.
IF YOU OR YOUR ASSOCIATES EVER CONTACT ME AGAIN WITH ANYTHING OTHER THAN AN ABJECT APOLOGY, THEN I WILL TAKE LEGAL ACTION AGAINST YOU.
IF YOU WANT YOUR BOOK BACK, THEN YOU MUST PAY THE POSTAGE COSTS AND A HANDLING FEE OF £10 FOR ME TO DESPATCH IT.
You clearly got my contact details from PrimeQ. I will be notifying them of your abuse of their services and will consider what action to take against them as your associates.
Yours with great disgust and Anger,
I then emailed them a very similar note. Their automated reply should be enough to satisfy a judge, should it ever reach court.
I have read their junk mail cover to cover and it may be that they do a credit search. I'll check, and if they do there will be hell to pay. I'm quite prepared to be out of pocket on legal costs just so long as Mango don't get a penny from me.0 -
Just for info - BCA - the "parent" company CEO is Mr George Saul - http://www.bca.co.uk/GeorgeSaul.aspxWhat should I put in here that won't upset people.........0

Have also had parcels from these book clubs, unsolicited. Parcel left outside at back of house. I did ring them and request they come and collect it. They offered to send me an address label, so I could take it to the post office. Told them I had better things to do. Have emailed them this week to say parcel is where they left it and is probably ruined by now. Unsolicited goods and left outside in the elements. Definately have not signed up to their club. When I rang, the woman kept asking for my membership number, Couldn't seem to understand I wasn't a member. In reply to my email, they wanted me to confirm my address. I refused. Think the whole thing is a scam. One half of the world cannot understand the pleasures of the other0

Hi There,
I too had exactly the same book land in my shed on Saturday mornings post.
I had absolutely no idea where it came from, and was trying to rack my brains if I'd signed up for a book club.
Anyway, thanks to reading this thread, I will now be doing some serious e-mailing to them.
Thanks for the info.

After sending the e-mail I posted last week, I've just received this reply:
Dear Sir/Madam,
Thank you for your e-mail.
We apologise for the inconvenience caused. We have deleted the a/c from our records
We trust that this now clarifies the matter for you.
Regards,
Customer Services
A standard reply by the looks, but hopefully that will be the last I hear from them.0 -
That's the standard alright - exactly the same as I had. I am now going to check the credit reference files just to be sure.0

Now saying that - I got a parcel today apparently from https://www.myclubonline.co.uk - a member of BCA. I think it might be because I signed up through pigsback to "buymeaticket" perhaps?
I only use Pigsback for referrals btw. I'm not happy if it is through them.Everyone has a photographic memory, it's just some of them don't have film.0 -
It was three days before I discovered a box out at the back of my house! Lucky it hadn't rained!
I too was racking my brains wondering when I had signed up for a bookclub and again, mispelt name.
I recalled signing up for a free book, I don't recall anything otherwise. Ooer Mrs.
I paid the 99p as I read the terms and conditions and it wanted me to purchase another 4 books or something this year!
I had no joy with the cust. serv. helpline. I never got through, so much for you getting through in 5 mins!
Well i emailed them letting them know I wanted the final account balance to be rid of them and they said there was none. This was to my surprise as I thought I would have to pay the threatened £10 inc. in their small print!
The account has been deleted. I definitely signed up for a free book somewhere and I don't use those points sites or freebie sites. I only use MSE.
Hmmmmmm......
I'm confuzzled!0 -
Update. :T
Having sent registered snail mail and some very assertive emails to Mango, I have today received the following email.
Quote:
Dear Sir/Madam,
Thank you for your e-mail.
We can confirm that your account has now been cancelled and that no balance is outstanding.
We hope to be able to welcome you back as a member in the future.
Regards,
Customer Services
I never did need to send the book back. To do so would have cost a few quid.
If anyone else has trouble breaking the relationship with Mango, then I'd recommend that they keep a note of any membership number in with the book. I can then give guidance on the type of letter that worked for me.
Absolutely do not send them the 99p as that is implicit acceptance of their membership terms.0
