Just before xmas i recieved a book from mango and a book from the mystery and thrillers club neither of which i asked for grrrrr i emailed them after having spent ages on the phone trying to get a person without luck i recieved no reply and have just recieved two letters saying i'm due them the money. I was beginning to stress about this until i saw this thread and tomorrow will phone the number here, thanks everybody :o
  • No problems. It seems like they get this problem a LOT, and I don't think many of us have any idea where they're getting their info from. They should sort it out if you write to them (send recorded, it's more expensive, but it'll stop them claiming they didn't get it) and you'll get to keep the book.

  • I got unsolicited mail from Mango and then they threatened to refer me to a debt collection agency. I then sent an email to

    welcome@new-member.co.uk

(I certainly wasn't going to phone them on the premium rate phoneline!) That worked for me and they deleted me from their database.
  • I am having problems with Mango Book Club, I moved address 1 yeasr ago, and informed them of the move, now they are still sending out the books to my previous and the new owners obviosly not returning which i have just found out by Solicitors, whom are now demanding there money back. I am very distressed about this as Mango are refusing to contact me to sort this matter out. I need help.
  • Send them a letter (recorded delivery) saying that you have moved house, Mango have obviously not updated your records as you have not received anything from them since moving.

    Hi,
    Membership # *********
I've just received a book and a box of junk mail from you.
I did not request this book and have at no time registered or entered
into any contract with your company. (so do not say I have, or that anyone else may have on my behalf/with ut my consent. I have heard every line of bull!!!! you can come up with).
I will class any more letters demanding money you are NOT owed as bulling and harassment.
I would be pleased if you could inform me how you came to have my
address on your system. Please do not insult me by saying "I must have clicked on a pop up" I have a very good pop up blocker that doesn't let any through. Also you could not have got my name and address by just clicking on a 'pop up'.
I gather I'm not the only person who has had these problem with you.
I insist that you remove all my information from your database and cancel my membership immediately (and
    any backups).
"Under the Unsolicited Goods and Services Act 1971, (as amended) it is an offence to demand payment for goods known to be unsolicited, in other words, they were sent to a person without any prior request made by them or on their behalf.
Someone who receives goods in these circumstances may retain them as an unconditional gift, and does not have to pay for or return any unwanted goods. Anyone who receives a demand for payment for unsolicited goods should report the matter to their local Trading Standards Department."
The above statement was taken from the dti website.
IF YOU OR YOUR ASSOCIATES EVER CONTACT ME AGAIN WITH ANYTHING OTHER THAN AN ABJECT APOLOGY, THEN I WILL TAKE LEGAL ACTION AGAINST YOU.
    Thanks

  • Hi,

I have been having trouble with Mango, they have been sending me unwanted books which I have returned. They are still demanding money from me for them, they have even got a baliff company involved with collecting money for books which I didn't want or have. I would advise anyone who recieves books from them which you haven't ordered to go straight to your local tradindg standards agency to get them involved. I would never recommend this book club to anyone.

  • I had a huge problem with mango book club going back a couple of years ago. Apparently they comtinuously send u the books and unless u return them immediately they charge u. Best thing to do is refuse delivery. Make a complaint, harass them to stop sending you unwanted items. I found i could never get through on their tel lines so in the end i wrote in several times and finally got my account cleared. It was a huge headache and i would warn people against similar style book clubs in future. They are a con and they're not as cheap or as wonderful as the initial advertisement makes out. please be careful and good luck.:A
