Presumably one very good way of getting revenge would be to take the Mango box, put a couple of housebricks in it, and send it back without postage?

PS another thing I've just done which amused me was to send an enquiry having changed my e-mail address to theirs. With a bit of luck this will send their e-mail system into a loop of automated replies to itself...

Having a bit more fun. Have registered their own 0870 number as my own and asked them to call me urgently. Also sent them a free book from the Gutenberg Project (the biggest I could find), sent multiple times. Probably if anyone who has had the same thing did the same and got their friends to do the same we could royally !!!! up their e-mail system.
  • I got this book club membership today I then did a search on saynoto0870 found a normal number called them told them i never ordered any book and that they could chase me for the money if they wanted as i was moving abroad in 3 weeks time the nice lady informed me that she was removing me from their system and I could keep the book, thanks for the book another Xmas pressie sorted out. Sparkles by Louise Bagshaw thank you very much.

  • It's not a scam as such...more relying on honest people not to believe that they can carry out surveys, quizzes and music tests and do it in good faith.

Then when you do one of the above you are passed to a page where you are invited to tick what you may be interested in, never once expecting to receive stuff in the post that you have to pay for and then read that you have signed into a contract.

Only you thing you can do is call, and I use that word cautiously, it took me around ten attempts and various search engines to even get a number that allowed you speak to a real person, and put your case across.

Even called the Direct Marketing Association to complain and was told that the lady was not in today?

The company who sent my books were okay.......but what about the ones that are not.

I'm pretty annoyed because I actually did join their book club and never got my books lol.
It's not easy having a good time. Even smiling makes my face ache.
  • I moved house in May and have recently picked up post from old address. Mango
welcome letter and 99p invoice. I would never join a book club not interested at all. As far as I know no book arrived anyway. As I didnt ask to join their club I ignored it but now have a ****Westcot debt collecters letter demanding £29.99 (also sent to my old address) Also it is addressed to Ms Debbie S, I never call myself this I would always use Mrs Deborah. I dont know how they have got my information. Westcot say it is too late to prevent it affecting my credit score and indeed I have been refused credit applications recently for a car
I am livid but dont know what I can do...
  • I had problems with the Mystery And Thriller Club. Same thing happened, box turned up at my door demanding payment when I'd never heard of them in my life before. Called the phone line who insisted that I DID join and that they would not delete my membership. Went onto the website which said, weirdly, my membership didn't exist. Contacted Consumer Direct who told me to write/email them to say that it was unsolicited mail and to get back to them if I didn't get a response.

I both emailed and posted a letter recorded so they couldn't turn round and say they hadn't recieved it with the following wording (feel free to C&P):

    To whom it may concern:

I recently received a box from you containing a book and an invoice for this book, which I understand, if I pay for, I will be entering into a contract.

This package was unsolicited mail. I have not, and would not, knowingly submit my details to anything asking to join your company. This is not something I am interested in, and would like my details to be taken from your database, as I do not wish any further correspondence from you.

I have called your customer line, and have been told that my email address is associated with the account number, which I do not understand. I have never received any correspondence from you before, through email or otherwise. I understand other people have been having problems with your company, so I understand that I am not the only one that has been receiving the unsolicited items.

I have contacted Consumer Direct Scotland, and they have advised me to send a recorded letter to you, stating the goods are unsolicited, and that they will be able for collection within 14 days of receipt of this letter, after which they will be treated as a gift and disposed of, and if this issue is not resolved by that time, Trading Standards will be involved.

In summary, I wish you to remove my details from your database, I do not wish any further letters seeking payment that I do not owe and you have 14 days to arrange collection, as I have no obligation to post back unsolicited mail.
    Yours sincerely,

Recieved an email AND letter back saying that my membership would be terminated and to keep the book (which OH now has) and have had no correspondence since.
