First of all please make sure you read this web site
    http://www.dti.gov.uk/consumers/buying-selling/unsolicited/index.html

I also got a book today at first, i thought i had won a prize, But noooo it was a book I hade never requested from 'Mango' after reading all the reply's on this thread, I sent this email (see below). So thankyou everyone for their advice and thank youuuuu MANGO for my nice new FREE book.:T :p :T

    Hi,
    Membership # *********
I've just received a book and a box of junk mail from you.
I did not request this book and have at no time registered or entered
into any contract with your company. (so do not say I have, or that anyone else may have on my behalf/with ut my consent. I have heard every line of bull!!!! you can come up with).
I will class any more letters demanding money you are NOT owed as bulling and harassment.
I would be pleased if you could inform me how you came to have my
address on your system. Please do not insult me by saying "I must have clicked on a pop up" I have a very good pop up blocker that doesn't let any through. Also you could not have got my name and address by just clicking on a 'pop up'.
I gather I'm not the only person who has had these problem with you.
I insist that you remove all my information from your database and cancel my membership immediately (and
    any backups).

"Under the Unsolicited Goods and Services Act 1971, (as amended) it is an offence to demand payment for goods known to be unsolicited, in other words, they were sent to a person without any prior request made by them or on their behalf.
Someone who receives goods in these circumstances may retain them as an unconditional gift, and does not have to pay for or return any unwanted goods. Anyone who receives a demand for payment for unsolicited goods should report the matter to their local Trading Standards Department."
The above statement was taken from the dti website.

IF YOU OR YOUR ASSOCIATES EVER CONTACT ME AGAIN WITH ANYTHING OTHER THAN AN ABJECT APOLOGY, THEN I WILL TAKE LEGAL ACTION AGAINST YOU.

    Thanks

    Mrs Thomas

Thanks for this letter. I have copied it and emailed it off to them. I've been sitting passing this b****y parcel for a week, intending to do something about it.
I also have a Readers Digest demand and a Next catalogue sitting looking at me from the same place - oredered neither!!! I think the culprit may be either Myoffers or Mutual Points....Anyway.....I'm off to find threads about the other two now.
  • Hi

I rec'd a book on thursday - found this number on bbc 0845 330 7142 - spoke to a real person straight away. Explained that i had not requested it and that i had not joined club and was infomred that i could keep book as gift and my account and details would be deleted straight away!

    Time will tell....
  • I received an unsolicited package from this "book club" this morning too. I was shocked to find them demanding money for an item I did not order and was rather panicky what I was going to do about it. I was sure I wasn't going to be out of pocket sending it back to them! I called the number on the paperwork that was included in the package, took a few attempts to get through but I did eventually get through to a human being. I told him in no uncertain terms that I had not signed up for their book club and did not want this book. He asked me if I had signed up for any freebies and I told him "not as far as I am aware". He told me that I could keep the book and he would remove my membership. I hope they keep their word. I am an unpaid carer and I cannot afford to be buying books I don't want!

I am sure that they must have got my details from the sweetcollect.co.uk site I signed up with the other week. It's one of those things where you get paid for clicking links (they pay with sweets instead of money). I know I didn't enter my details into any of the links I clicked on (I closed the window as soon as the page loaded) so my guess is that the sweetcollect.co.uk site passed my address on to them. It's absolutely appalling.

    pengy
  • And still this problem continues. I've just had two emails claiming that I've joined Mango (erm, nope) and World Of Mystery & Thriller (I suspect I might remember doing something like that)

Has anyone who got mails saying that they have unsubscribed and their account has been closed had further hassle, say from payment agencies? I have no intention of letting this damage my credit record and want to make absolutely sure that they get the message.

boyfriend got a pracel this morning. he has had emails about mango and a few other sites on his email recently that neither of us knew anything about.. normally if i sign up to a good offer i sing him up to but i didnt get any of these emails or parcels ( well not yet anyway) most of my addresses on these sites are for my old house so that would be fun if they sent it there.. the house is empty at the moment..

im emailing them and ringing them on monday and getting this sorted this is stupid of this company because it must be costing a fortune for this lot tobe sent.

  • That sounds disturbingly familiar, as I had a slew of those emails yesterday from all kinds of places I've never heard of like greatbritishoffers and freefivers. It's got me really stressed. :(

  • I suspect it has something to do with a 5 ipoint mail about winning an MP3 player a week or so back, I reckon it all stems from there, even though I opted out of everything, and even explicity emailed them to say I was unhappy with their privacy policy and wanted out, even of the prize draw.
