I recieved a box of crap, a book, and a bill fo 90p from Mango this morning it was just left on my doorstep. I telephoned trading standards who advised me to ring Mango, which I did. They told me that I must have applied for the book. I informed them that I certainly did not nor did I click on any pop up ads. They are going to send someone to pick up the box in the next 2 weeks.
What a cheek and what a con.0 -
Hi
i entered a competition - through a post on this site. and then received this package plus bill for 99p.
I telephoned and a lady said she was cancelling my bill and membership and to keep the book for free.
I did ask for a letter to be sent out confirming this. I have not received this letter and I called 2 weeks ago.0 -
Hi everyone,
Just received the same thing i.e. a crappy book for 99p and a letter saying I had joined and in a roundabout way I could not get out of it. I haven't joined any club, why would anyone when you can get better books at Tesco for less than £2.00.
I did receive an email from someone welcoming me to their club and I replied I didn't know what they were talking about and their reply was the same i.e. they didn't know who I was.
Anyway, read all the notes on hear and am going to ring to complain. Hopefully it will get sorted out.
Cheers.

Hi me again,
Just rang them and they apologised, told me to keep the book in the way of an apology. I said that I wanted it in writing as I had no proof they had said that and he said no problem. I won't hold my breath.
I got through by ringing customer services and giving a wrong membership number and after three goes it said it would put me through to an agent. Which it did straight away, this was at 0840.
Will keep you informed.

We got Mango'd too, except the parcel was addressed to someone we've never heard of (and neither has anyone else around here) and letters from Mango keep coming, which we send back unopened with "not known at this address". We opened the parcel to see if there was a contact number but as it was an 0870 we didn't use it - I don't see why we should have to pay for a premium rate phone call to return goods we didn't order.
Maybe it's all just a scam to get you to call the number, who knows these days?0 -
Yep, me too - signed up for this forum like a few other purely due to this Mango Book Club problem. Got package 10 minutes ago - phoned 5 minutes ago and according to person on the phone at the other end it would seem that my details were passed on due to signing up for some other offer - sounds totally illegal to me. Told him I had not and he agreed to remove my name and would send me a prepaid sticker for sending this back.
The ease at which he said this means this is probably a common occurence for them and they realise they are probably breaking the law. The sad thing is the law doesn't seem to be doing anything about this - this thread appears to have started in March of this year and these guys are still operating 6 months later.
I'm about to contact the Northern Ireland Consumer Council (for the first time) and see what they can do about it.
Someone else mentioned possibly being signed up through "The Mutual" - I'm guessing this is themutual.net and I am also a member of this suggesting that there could be a common factor here.
Incidentally, about 4-6 weeks ago my inbox was assaulted with several supposed sign-up offers from different companies. Mango was one of them so it sounds like some "offers site" somewhere has done a mass submission of email addresses to various companies like Mango. What annoys me about this is that email offers are supposed to be considered spam unless they are double-opt in (i.e. you confirm your email address just like you did when you signed up for this forum) I'm going to try and find the details for their hosting company and complain about being spammed. If they receive enough complaints their hosting company may pull the plug on them.0 -
I too got a letter informing me of my "Membership" of Mango and I have just sent the following email to customer services, the mail bounced and I resent it via their postmaster. I do not know the legality of telling them that I will asume they are engaging my consultancy service but it cannot be anymore dodgy than their unsolicited subscrition to me. I would be v interested in what others may think....
email to Mango follows...
I'm sorry I do not know who you are I do not want to be a member of your book club. I did not request membership in your book club. You have assigned me membership number xxxxxxxx.
I do not want your product or any of the books you appear to be planning to send me. Any product you do send will be assumed by me to be a request to review and comment on your services on a consultancy basis for which I will charge you the sum of £500 per day or part thereof. If you wish to engage my services as a commentator on consumer offerings then send away.
I do not undertake to return any materials sent to me or delivered to me by you, you do so entirely at your own risk and any previous electronic communication that you take to be a request for membership or subscription that you have assumed to be a request for such services sent on my behalf previously is rescinded, revoked and otherwise withdrawn.
Sincerely

HI everyone. Ive just come home to find a parcel on my doorstep with a book I've never ordered in it.
Thanks to your comments I;ve emailed one of the advised statements, so I'll wait and see what turns up.
I'm quite happy to pass my comments onto Watchdog, trading standards etc.

Just a thought -
Has anyone tried phoning Mango using 0800 REVERSE, and letting them pay a fortune to talk to you?[size=-2] If this post was unhelpful, please tell me.
