Postman left my parcels next door!

I'm currently marking KS2 SATs... thankfully most of the papers get delivered to my door by ParcelForce, but the admin paperwork goes by Royal Mail - and it's quite a lot of bits and bobs. I've made sure I'm around the last couple of weeks so I can answer the door to the postie and not have kids' papers they worked hard on lingering in the system for longer than necessary... but the postman last week left an admin package just balanced on the doorstep (we don't have a secluded garden) when I was in the house, and again today I've been in all day (sat next to the doorbell dinger so no excuse) I've gone out to go to the gym and only happened to glance up the side alley to the house to find the next package chucked down there - no note through the door, nothing... I rarely even look down there unless it's a Friday and I'm seeing if the veg box guy's been when I'm out.
I'm cross because no note was left through the door telling me where to look, I've been in all day, and potentially that could have been pretty ikky information to leave on someone's doorstep (it wasn't fortunately - just dummy scripts for marking consistency checking). I also don't particularly like my full name and address sat on the doorstep ready for the taking by all and sundry.
So yeah - complaint going in for this cos it's ridiculous.
Agree with you entirely, it's not on.0 -
And the postie is supposed to know this how exactly??????
Erm...by the OP leaving a note?
Its funny Andy, if youd read the rest of my post before you deleted it, you would have noticed thats exactly my point.......I asked how difficult it was to do that.
So the sarcastic look is for what exactly????????????????????????????
Your entitled to your opinion. As is the OP, but your both aware that its an option for the postman - SO why complain if you choose not to be in and choose not to stick up a note!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Im off to find a brick wall and bash my head against it for the rest of this thread.....Sometimes lurking, sometimes posting, but always flying

We have great neighbours who will always take parcels in for us and we are happy to return the favour where possible. I can see the OP's point about being upset with their parcel being left with a neighbour or a "complete stranger" as they put it, but I really feel that the postie was just trying to be helpful and they've got angry about a matter that can be easily rectified.
This can be done by being at home when parcels are delivered, asking for a parcel to be marked "do not leave with neighbour" or leaving a note on the door asking the postie not to leave parcels with a neighbour. If that all fails then fair enough, complain to Royal Mail, but I do think this is rather a storm in a teacup on the OP's part.0 -
I'm confused. In our old house, the postie told us that parcels could only be left with a neighbour if we'd given prior consent (we questioned it because our neighbour offered when she saw him knocking at our door when we were out, and he refused to leave it with her). At our new flat, the postie left a parcel of clothes with our vile pot-smoking neighbour, which then stank to high heaven when we collected it a couple of hours later. We queried the postie, and were told that they can leave it with neighbours unless we've specifically requested otherwise. Make up your minds please Royal Mail!!0

5 minutes navigating the longest automated switchboard ever - to get no one available to answer your call... bye... hangup.
Trying again - otherwise I'll press an option for "hey there's cash in this for you" option and there's bound to be someone there then!Little miracle born April 2012, 33 weeks gestation and a little toughie!0 -
I'd far rather a parcel was left with my neighbour, though mine are most out during the day so it rarely happens.
Instead, I get variously;
parcel taken to delivery office, no note
parcel taken to delivery office, note left in gutter outside house (twice now)
parcel taken to delivery office, when it's small (1 love film dvd was my favourite - it fits through the box every other time, why not this week?)
parcel taken to delivery office when I am in but they don't bother to ring the bell (most common, happened 4 times this month alone)
parcel taken to delivery office, not there after 48 hours, finally arrives back 4 days later
parcel taken to post office 5 miles away (we have 3 closer than the one they leave it at)

and heres the problem
you get complaints every way
i dont leave with neighbours on my delivery as its mainly vermin but in nicer areas its common practice
if you dont get on with your neighbours then surely they would refuse?

well in praise of posties
well one
our regular postie (a few years back) knocked on my door one sat am holding a £20 note...was it mine? No I said. (I was talking to him from an upstairs window BTW)
Well I found it outside yours so I'll post it through.
We'd had a chinese delivered prev night so I checked with them if their bloke was short at all and he was so I took them the £20 - told him not to thank me but the postie...
and I wrote to the sorting office.
Postie spotted me in town and thanked me for writing to his manager.Don't put it DOWN; put it AWAY"I would like more sisters, that the taking out of one, might not leave such stillness" Emily DickinsonJanice 1964-2016
