I wish everyone lived where they knew and trusted their neighbours.
    This isn't the case :(
Can Royal Mail attach some kind of note/info to your "file" (do we have files with them??) saying do not deliver to neighbour? Or when ordering online most sites do have a "comments" box for extra delivery instructions.
I think it makes sense to return parcel to depot, unless they've been informed it's ok to leave with Mrs Bloggs at number 22.

Oh, and it's not really a matter of *choosing* to be out - work isn't a choice!

I am a postie and am a holiday leave reserve so do different rounds each week.It is very common to see a sign or note on peoples doors saying do not leave parcel on step or anywhere else if not at home.If a postie is doing this then they are just giving us a bad name.
If you get in touch with your local delivery office stating this they will put a special instruction card to that effect on your posties bench.

Recently, the postman attempted to deliver a parcel when I was out, however it was too big for my letter box. The postman however decided ask next door to look after the package instead of taking back to the delivery centre. Is this allowed? I complained to the Post Office as the parcel could have contained anything, yet they gave it to a complete stranger!

Still waiting to hear back after a week after complaining. Btw, I did get the parcel from next door - but still angry.

I'd rather they did that than put them in my non-empty rubbish bin for me to fish out!!!!

I don't know my neighbours especially well but we all have a kind of agreement re parcels and stuff. Last Xmas the lady across the road knocked on - she had taken a parcel for no 14 but they had not got home yet and they were about to go off to stay with relatives for crimbo - would I take it for them and she would put a note through their door telling them the new arrangements.

No bother whatsoever. Just a little helpfulness and communication and everyone happy.

Last order I had the delivery driver took the initiative and chucked it over the back wall. :D
  • i was quite surprised recently to find out that you can arrange re-delivery for free on the royal mail website, even on a saturday morning..far less hassle than trundling down to the sorting office and waiting..

  • the whole 'choosing to be out' thing always makes me laugh with various companies too, the gas board, the council repair people etc....its like we are out at work on purpose just to pee them off...

Navvie are you sure the neighbors even got the goods?

I know parcel guys who nick parcels quite easily like that.
