I bought my current home (4 bed townhouse) on my own about 5 years ago. 3 years ago, I met my hubby, so we'd like to buy together now. We'd like somewhere detached, with a garden bigger than the postage stamp it is now!
I've often wondered why they build town houses (whihc usually have lots of internal space) with such teeny tiny gardens"Science is a wonderful thing if one does not have to earn one's living at it" Einstein 19510 -

Certainly in this neck of the woods, town houses are all built with lots of bedrooms and space to park 1 car. Despite it being the sort of area where you can't really live without a car, so generally every family starts off with two cars and ends up with 3 or 4 cars once the kids reach that old-enough-to-drive-not-ready-to-move-out phase. And there generally isn't a lot of road space around the townhouses for all the extra cars either...0 -
...They've had to keep taking their fag breaks so it's taken a bit longer...
Thanks, bit early wish it tomorrow when we're safely there (we hope)
I used to work with a couple of guys who had constant fag breaks. I added it up, and in a week I did 8 to 10 hours more work than them… C’est la vie!0 -

you must live near me, you've described it perfectly
just hoping _someone_ wants it soon !"Science is a wonderful thing if one does not have to earn one's living at it" Einstein 19510 -
I don't want to do anymore viewings
No idea how today's went but you can't help but take it personally and it's draining

I am starting to lose belief that we will ever sell - ..., but we need someone to come along who will appreciate it - because as time is moving on we are becoming more and more definite that there is no way we are giving it away at a bargain basement price. Oh well, sit and wait it out a bit longer I guess., I met my hubby, so we'd like to buy together now. sI don't want to do anymore viewings

I completely sympathise with you, it's a soul destroying business isn't it? If you're anything like me, you scrub & primp the house and dress it for viewing. You then get a cursory ten minute viewing, and a "no" at the end of it
One of these viewers though, WILL buy it. You bought your current home, so it's not unsellable. At least, that's what I keep having to tell myself !"Science is a wonderful thing if one does not have to earn one's living at it" Einstein 19510 -

You took the words out my mouth jw2003, monkeys bunny and Grimbal - you feel like your home must be truly awful and you were the only person in the world insane enough to buy it (conveniently ignoring everyone else in your block/street/estate who owns a near identical property and all the previous owners).
I have a third 2nd viewing this week which I'm not even excited about as I'm so convinced he won't buy it - although thankfully I'm away with work so at least the soul destroying house tidy is left to poor hubbie and I've escaped it:rotfl:
PS - I never realised people did second viewings when they weren't even that interested. To me, a second viewing is when you've basically decided to buy and just want to double check you didn't miss the fact the property was guarded by dragons or sinking into the sea or something. My second viewers so far haven't even bought anything else or given a solid reason for turning mine down - just said they're going to keep looking. Frustrating! :mad:0 -

I guess their not that experienced in the house buying/selling game.
Thinking back to the 10 or 11 houses we have bought and sold; it was only really in the early days of our ownerships that we went back for a second viewing before offering. In recent years we have already shortlisted the best before even seeing them and comparison to our checklists after the first viewing is usually enough to sort out which we buy.
On the other hand maybe your viewers are looking for the "perfect" house, which for most of us will never exist (at least not on day one of your ownership). Been watching too many C4 programmes.0 -
I spent hours researching local house prices, what they were on at, selling for, how long they had been on the market for and the figure we came up with was the same as the estate agents so I found it particularly annoying when someone says 'we've done our research and a house on the next street sold for £20k less than your is on for' yes, however, said house on the next street was a wreck and needed completely renovating. Not many houses go on the market in this immediate vicinity but the last 2 to have been sold were on for similar prices and sold within 5% under (and this was recent), that doesn't mean I won't move on my asking price - I am prepared to negotiate, but I have done my research too:silenced:0
