What's everyone's opinion on de-personalising your property eg taking down all pics and ornaments?
Depends how many you have to start with!
I'm not an ornament person anyway so don't have those around apart from a small pottery cat on my kitchen windowcill, he stayed for all my viewings!
I have 2 photo's by my bed of wedding day and kids, plus 3 small pics on my bookcase in the lounge. None of those great big A3 size posed photos.....god I hate those!
I think plain and uncluttered is better but thats just me!"Put the kettle on Turkish, lets have a nice cup of tea.....no sugars for me.....I'm sweet enough"0 -
Still no feedback from the viewing I had at the weekend. Sure they don't want to buy it but why can't they just inform the EA as much?
I'm not surprised it's not shifting, I'd be very nervous about buying in this market.Set your goals high, and don't stop till you get there.

I decluttered our house, went through every room and either packed away, binned or hid in drawers everything that didn't need to be out, so now everything in the house is what we take when we move. It felt really good to do. I personally don't like viewing a house that is cluttered, it puts me off, but that's just me, I can see through the clutter if needed.0

The ea rang today to say they have not got feedback from the viewing we had, but they seemed interested. Wishful thinking maybe.0

i have a 1-bed flat to sell. It's empty just bleeding money... I don't want to be a landlady, i want to sell...
In December EA said we could put it on £180k... After a short time I lowered it to £175k, and then to £169950 and now it's on at £167k
It's been on the market for ages and it has had many viewings.
Feedback includes
- Lease is short (yes I know it's 79 years but ATM i don't have money to extend it... It would be about £10k + solicitors fees to extend)
- Has no bath just a shower
- I want a separate kitchen
- I want my own garden (they why view a flat with a communal garden)
- I have a dog
I am thinking of lowering the price to £162k next
Opinions?
(I bought in 2005 for £151k, similar flats in the block sold for £160k in 2006 (in a worst condition) and £161500 in 2008)
Since 2005 I added a brand new Vaillant boiler and double glazing throughout0 -
omg! I was just browsing RightMove with the Property Bee extension and SEVEN houses have sold in my village today! It includes a variety of Estate Agents so its not just one EA updating their info all at once. The houses are all at the mid to lower end of the market so I can only hope this creates a wave up the chain.
Take heart everyone, things do seem to be happening.October no spend on lunches 2/17 so far.0 -

That is what the photographer did when doing photos for my sale, except in one room where there's a picture of my daughter as a baby clear for all to see
I would also advise totally decluttering your bathroom of EVERYTHING for photos, and getting rid of anything deemed unsightly in the kitchen - I don't have a tall kitchen cupboard so my Dyson and mop and bucket were moved out of the way for the photos for instance.0 -
What's everyone's opinion on de-personalising your property eg taking down all pics and ornaments?
I have removed all clutter, and anything that isn't used on a regular basis. I've moved everything into plastic boxes stored in the loft, which have been numbered 1-8, and I have a spreadsheet which details each item in the box, so if I need something, I don't have to dig through every box to find it.
I have left ornaments out strategically on bookcases and shelving, that coordinate with the colour scheme in each room. Bought three A5 size photo frames from Ikea yesterday, which I'm planning to put baby photos of my nephews and nieces into (selling a family home but don't have any kids of my own!) to give the house a 'family' feel.
Whats people's opinion of bedroom dressing? We have three bedrooms, but only one bed, so I was thinking of mocking-up a bed out of plastic boxes and a foam mattress for the second bedroom. Is this a good idea, or should I just leave it empty?0 -
