I am completing on my little cottage today, the wreck! (well not quite, but the amount of work is starting to seem overwhelming) why am I buying it again?
Congratulations! You've come full circle now too. You bought the cottage because it had the right potential, I'm sure.
I sometimes wonder why we bought this place when we had enough to purchase something all done and dusted, but the fact is, those places were not right for other reasons, like the location was poor, or the land was awful.
We thought we knew more or less what we wanted to do when we moved in, but only 4 months on our ideas are shifting. It's quite good to live somewhere and just put up with its inadequacies for a bit, rather than dive in recklessly, like someone on Property Ladder, doing things you'll come to regret later.
Have a good Christmas in there anyway, before you start wielding the sledgehammer!;)0 -
my parents are coming to see the new house tomorrow. here's hoping they feel like fixing bits and bobs while I am at work!!
neighburs seem nice; a bit terratorial about on street parking! but liveable, and generally quiet. Boy next door has a drum kit (or maybe rockband game) but mum must tell him to stop playing at 7:30 latest as it goes quiet then!Debt free 4th April 2007.
New house. Bigger mortgage. MFWB after I have my buffer cash in place.0 -
Pawpurrs - he turned up after all. Darn it!0

He'd better had or I'll poke him in the eye with a sharp stick!
Nah - fairly confident. This house is as solid as anything. It's just a bit run down and sad inside because I haven't had the money to spend on it. It badly needs properly glazed windows, but that was included in the price reduction and the buyer has come round twice, the second time with a builder and for quite an extensive period of time (not a quick 10 minute view, in other words). He knows he's getting the deal of the century and I deeply regret giving this house up because I know how much it could be worth with a bit of time and TLC. But time and TLC cost money I just don't have. He does. Good luck to him. He's actually going to live here with his girlfriend, who apparantly loves the place, so I feel that at least my home is going to good owners.

Well touch wood everything seems to be going through with my sale and purchase so far. Both surveys have been done and come back OK, solicitor seems on top of everything though she has mentioned our buyers solicitors havent asked any questions yet - Im hoping they either hurry up and ask or dont bother asking at all!! We are still hoping for a possible move before Christmas, but not holding my breath as I know it was pushing it a bit to do it all in time (but you never know - it could happer
)
Just on a side not to sellers - I had an estate agent ring me up yesterday telling me he had the perfect property for me, I told him thankyou but we were sorted, but out of curiosity where was it? He told me the address, and it was of a property we had been really interested in, but when we went to make a booking for a viewing, we were told we couldnt possibly view as they were having new carpets fitted! I explained at the time to the EA that we were ready and in a position to put an offer on a property that week, couldnt wait any longer and didnt mind what state the property was in, but no go. So they possibly lost out on a sale just to have new carpets fitted. Oh well. The house we got was up for £165 and luckily they accepted an offer of £152 so although we have had to bump up our mortgage it is at an affordable jump. Please keep your fingers crossed that all continues to go quickly and smoothly please!! I cant wait to have my family all back together(Tho not sure what to do about Christmas - no tree up yet!!)

That's all good news, kymie. I'm sure everyone here is so pleased for you, and wishing like mad that it all goes through seamlessly, whether that's before, or just after after Christmas.:A0

How is everyone doing? Anyone still getting viewings given the time of year?
Our sale is still going through (fingers crossed). Survey this week and they want us out before end of year to avoid stamp duty, so all very up in the air and stressful for us. We cant book removals as we dont have a date and they are officially closed between xmas and ny! We have a rental property lined up luckily, but very up in the air till we exchange and can sign up for it! Happy days!0 -
I've got my fingers crossed for you Toots. by gum, they'll have to get a wiggle on then won't they to complete before xmas.
I had 2 viewing Sat just gone, both seemed to like it a lot, 1 viewing yesterday and 2 more booked in for this Saturday. I've let the house go I originally wanted - too big an insurance risk since it's on a flood plain. so if any of these viewers are serious and turn into buyers then I'll have to get a wiggle on and find something else!Mortgage free as of 10/02/2015. Every brick and blade of grass belongs to meeeee. :j0 -
Toots, that's where we were this time last year, with a first time buyer holding up the chain. It didn't happen by Christmas, but we were exchanged very early January and into the rental PDQ. Insisted on at least 10 days between exchange & completion, and would do the same again to ease the hassle of moving fast. Besides, the new owners get a really clean house!:A
Spirit, I'm really glad you left the flood plain house for someone else. Even if it's only a 1:75 event, there's no way of knowing when, or even that it won't happen twice in 10 years. And, of course, one day you will want to sell again.....Yeah.... I know, but you will!;)0
