M5 Inside lane ban?

American motorways are a lot quieter than ours. The cities are rammed but out in 'the country' they are far more busy here.
You obviously haven't driven up the I5 from San Francisco to Portland, Oregon, then, have you?I used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.0 -
Lazy drivers make for bad drivers, the ones who sit in the middle lane do so, cause they do 70 and see no reason to pull in only to pull out again 30 seconds later grrrr....
Lazy driver mixed with impatientient Lazy drivers mean the middle lane hoggers tail gate another Lazy middle lane hogger expecting them to pull over, why should they when there is another lane to over take ie lane 3.
The idea of following another car doesnt appeal to me so I make space, I like to drive with space around me, I hate it when truck over taking truck along with middle lane hogger in outside lane holding up everyone with all 3 lanes doing around 60...
What happens next apart from impatient activity and bad manouvers to be the one that gets through. Bunching up of vehicles all driving too close together.
I personally believe cars without the ability to drive at a constant 70 mph should not be allowed in the outside overtaking lane, nor should 7.5 tonne lorrys with 56mph restrictors... lanes 1-2 should be fine for them along with the regular HGV's.
Caravans should be instructed to drive in the inside lane, they are restricted to 60mph and should ONLY be allowed to overtake when safe to do so... no just to keep their speed up ...
ALL too often I see caravans being driven at 80mph... Far far too often.Plan

That's a good thing and should be encouraged.
The faster they are going, the more likely it is that the little house will snake about and flip over. :T
Nothing comes close to the sheer magnificence of seeing sheets of plywood and kitchen parefenalia strewn over the embankment.:rotfl::rotfl:
It's the best bit about being stuck onthe same road as these misfits. :j:j0 -
I wish the shed pullers would do 80mph. The more sheds that get scrapped the better.
4x4's next then........Politicians and diapers have one thing in common. They should both be changed regularly, and for the same reason.0 -

You will probably have enjoyed the sight I saw a few weeks back then. A Citroen C5 had attempted to tow a caravan up a rather steep hill, couldn't manage it and so set itself on fire in protest. Luckily the passengers were unharmed, unfortunately so was the caravan though.
Batchy: 7.5 tonne lorries aren't required to be limited to 56mph0 -

They are not meant to be in the outside lane:

The right-hand lane of a motorway with three or more lanes MUST NOT be used (except in prescribed circumstances) if you are driving- any vehicle drawing a trailer
- a goods vehicle with a maximum laden weight exceeding 3.5 tonnes but not exceeding 7.5 tonnes, which is required to be fitted with a speed limiter
- a goods vehicle with a maximum laden weight exceeding 7.5 tonnes
- a passenger vehicle with a maximum laden weight exceeding 7.5 tonnes constructed or adapted to carry more than eight seated passengers in addition to the driver

Less naughty, but more humourous is to overtake in lane 3, pull back to lane 1 and slow down to let them pass, then overtake again. Repeat until they get the message/bored.
5 laps to beat.

More naughty, but also more effective is to wait for someone to start overtaking them in lane 3, then undertake them, keeping pace with the L3 person such that you both pop into their field of vision simultaneously.0 -
What would help is if you were a considerate driver and move into lane 2 when traffic is joining the motorway. That way its just the lorries what vehicles joining the motorway need to navigate round.Bowling_4_Gold wrote: »The people who get my blood boiling are the ones who seem to not bother looking behind them when joining the motorway... assume that because the on-slip is going, there will automatically be a gap in traffic for them to slide in to when they bother to actually join.0 -

I made a general observational point, not specifically about particular hot spots...0
