I've been Mrs Good-mummy today - and cooked, carrots, butternut squash, sweet potatos and cabbage. My plan was to blend them all seperately and freeze them in ice cube trays - then get her used to each taste on its own, before mixing them to get different meals/tastes!

However - my blasted hand blender has just given up on me! (It is 8 years old!). The blades aren't rotating and its making a strange noise.

Anyone got any recommendations for blenders? Are they all the same, or do the ones packaged as baby ones (and usually more expensive) do anything different?

And/or - will I be able to mash it enough by hand with a masher or fork?

Do not buy a baby blender !!!!!!
They are exactly the same as a normal blender but smaller and more expensive as they have baby on them  I hate things like that (sorry didnt mean to rant :o)

Just buy a normal hand blender and if you are only using it for puree foods then a cheap one from tesco or argos will be just fine. Mine is a £5 one from Tesco and I have had it for 2 years and it is still going fine :D

Ok - milk out the side of the mouth when feeding is normal :) Roo does it all the time both with boob and bottle - both sometimes run too fast for her and the excess just dribbles out...
Hiccuping - again Roo gets them about once a day :) Either they start with a sneeze, burping or after and hissyfit :) They will stop on their own and are normal :)
Milk out the nose... ok I'm REALLY glad Roo doesn't have this :) eeeeeew :rotfl:
Can't comment on the sucking air - I know Roo makes sucking motions but I haven't noticed her actually swallowing air
I used to be unable to leave Roo in a room too :) The only time I wouldn't do it now is if it's downstairs where the dog has the run - I've only done it down here when I've taken the dog with me instead (like in the kitchen so I could put some washing on without waking the baby up - easier to call the dog with me :))
I'm gradually stopping worrying about her breathing at night (I used to wake up and check she was still breathing!) but now I'm so exhausted that I can sleep fine until she makes noises :)

3 - if you've cooked them well enough a fork or masher will be fine. Just add a bit of milk or water to alter consistency. We also have a £5 hand blender which I will prob use for about a week when I wean this one.

Weezl - you're a genius! (And as Sami said, possibly, so is Imogen :rotfl:)

A few people have mentioned bottom patting as a way of getting baby to sleep - how does this work when baby is laying on their bottom??

We patted her chest and it worked just as well.

Every 12th, we are either in Disneyland paris or Alton towers. This is our first 12th of July at home :o

We live in a mixed area which is normally very quiet and residential but there have been problems here in the past with roads being blocked and catholics not allowed to pass (which we are) :p

Can they tell by looking at you?! Sorry, I don't have a deep understanding of what it's like in NI (I know the basics about Catholics vs Protestants). That just sounded a bit strange. Bands sound like good entertainment for the kids though. And please stop talking about chilled cider. I'd kill for one right now!

Although, in other news, I think the sweep might have worked it's magic :T:j:T I've been having very mild contractions with very mild pain since about 2.30 this pm. They are sporadic (every 20 mins) and not picking up yet, but I'm keeping everything crossed.

Mum is on stand-by to make the 90min journey from NW to NE. We've decided to hold off so she can miss the nightmare that is Friday night on the M62. Mainly cos last time it took 5 days, so we've been here before.

I've just had a lovely bath with the aromatherapy oils recommended to help/bring on labour (so I smell a bit like pipe tobacco!) and DH is making tea.

I've spent most of the day on the loo and thought my waters were leaking earlier, but it didn't come to anything, so it's all adding up. I also feel pretty sick. I remember being sick with the pain last time, but don't remember feeling sick (and no appetite) so early on. Anyone had this?

Thank you - that's what I thought! I think the one that has lasted me 8 years was only a cheap one from Asda!

If you go on your facebook home page - then the videos bit, there's an upload button. I did one from my mobile - you just sent the video from phone to a facebook address and it appeared on my page like magic!! :D

Its not quite as simple as that over here, everyone seems to just know what religion you are whether you know them or not !! The bands are good, and the govt are making an effort to make it more a family day than a protestant day out :o

You can have 1/2 pint of chilled cider can you not ?? I had a few when I was pregnant over tht heat wave, it was really really needed !!!:rotfl:

Good luck if the sweep has started something :D

Hmm, turning up at the labour ward smelling of alcohol might not be such a great thing! I don't mind having a drink, and have done, but I want a whole Jacques or Magnas, not a measly 1/2!

Actually, might be a preferable smell to pipe tobacco though!
