Little mo breastfed in Eastenders but they made it a real drudgery for her at the time... From a tv point of view it's easier for them to portray bottle feeding but it's just another glaringly obvious point about the bottle feeding culture we live in... Like MM said, a lot of women have never even seen a woman breastfeeding, we learn from our peers and society around us, if all we ever see is bottle feeding on tv, images of bottles on new baby cards and in advertisements then bottle feeding continues to be the cultural norm... That's why people take issue on the very rare occaision they see a woman breastfeeding, because it is so alien to them...
A very proud Mummy to 3 beautiful girls... I do pity my husband though, he's the one to suffer the hormones...
Krystal is so smart and funny and wonderful I am struck dumb in awe in her presence.

Becles - Its a shame she reacted like that but I bet you would do it again - the catching him, maybe not picking him up etc

yep before I had Chris I'd only seen 1 other woman Bfeed at that was only the once, since having Chris its only really been booby group and the maternity ward - even at groups I've been to almost every mum there "couldn't" BF - myself included

ETA - just looking on mumsnet and there are a few threads about Maria on Corrie - yey I'm not the only one annoyed by it :)

Thank you for your e-mail regarding Coronation Street and I’m sorry to read that you were unhappy with comments made Audrey, Kirk & Tony in a recent episode. Successful drama such as Coronation Street relies on realistic portrayal and characterisation. Our responsibility as Producers is to strike a balance between the realities of life and an awareness of the transmission time and potential audience. In the many situations addressed in Coronation Street we never set out to encourage unfair or prejudiced attitudes however there must be moments when inappropriate things are said or done, if no one ever demonstrates human frailty or ignorance it is impossible to identify with them. Audrey’s comments about breast-feeding were totally within the character that we have built over the past 30 years; she has always been a self centered, selfish and highly opinionated woman who has confessed to being a rubbish mother on many an occasion. Her remarks about putting a baby straight on a bottle are just the sort of thing she would say as she would never give so much time to looking after an infant; as she said she put Gail on a bottle from day one. Kirk comments about him being uncomfortable about seeing women breastfeeding are again just the sort of foolish thing he would say and Tony, in his besotted state will agree with Maria no matter what his real thoughts are.

Notwithstanding, we are very sorry you were offended and I can assure you that we have taken your comments on board and hope that this issue will not spoil your future enjoyment of Coronation Street. If you would like to take this matter further you can contact our regulatory body Ofcom at Riverside House, 2a Southwark Bridge Road , London , SE1 9HA .

Yours with Best Wishes, David Nugent, Coronation Street

    My life has changed today.
I need to tender for my job and I got the documents through today. I knew it was coming but it is all quite scary. I have to prove myself on 30 A4 sides of paper and if I don't do it well enough I am out of a job in September.

    Oh my!!!

I think people are wary of touching toddlers these days. I had a bad experience doing a good deed!

I was going into InShops (not sure if that's a national thing, but it's like a sort of indoor market with lots of tiny independant shops.) As I opened the door, a little boy ran out at top speed heading straight for the road into the car park, so I grabbed him. He was crying so I calmed him down and he told me he'd lost his Mammy. I explaned I would take him back in and we'd go to customer services and they would put a message out for Mammy to collect him.

I picked him up and held him high and we were playing "hunt the Mammy" on the way to the customer service desk which he thought was funny. All of a sudden a lady snatched him out of my arms and screamed "get your hands off him, he's mine!" and marched off.

I was totally gobsmacked and felt like marching after her and telling her if I hadn't have grabbed him, he'd probably be under a car by now :(

Thats awful :( and very sad. She should have been so glad to find her son safe and well rather than have a pop at you!

    xx

sami have you tried a blanket or towel inside to hold baby up a bit? play about with it and you will find a comfy position! also move the rings up your shoulder as i found that the higher they are the better it is, erin liked to be snuggled up but i think that they think they are back in the womb so get in a funny position!
erin is so nosey now and unless she is feeding she has to be upright to nose at things! will try get a pic tom to show you!
