The jaundice doesn't seem to be clearing up any, I think I will try her naked for a while tomorrow, it does make sense if she is supposed to be absorbing the sunlight.
Charlotte had a lot of jaundice and she spent a lot of time in the front window. It gets the morning sun and it's a floor length window, so I used to do her early morning feed and pop in the sunshine. We live next to a school and all the bairns walking past liked waving at her
I can also remember having to wake her every three hours for a feed during the day and having to get as much milk into her as I could. I can't remember the reasons for all the milk, but it did seem to help.
Mrs M - your baby is so gorgeous. Thanks for sharing the pictures
Sleeping - I started from birth and the last feed of the day about 11pm-ish was bed time. Gradually she learned that and the period she slept in the night got longer and longer and once she was sleeping through, I gradually moved bedtime further forward.
Thanks very much for all the votes for Charlotte. You need to click on the stars to register a vote:

I was told just to make sure she feeds at least every 4 hours, but I sometimes waken her after 3, because her deep sleeping makes me nervous.My_Fathers_Daughter wrote: »Never wake a sleeping baby is my rule!!
I never woke Benjamin for a feed...not even at the start, if he was hungry he would wake.
He was sleeping 5 or 6 hours at night pretty much from when we brought him home.

Susan, many thanks for the spreadsheet. Have you decided to go BPA free so you can microwave? I thought it was ok in a bottle warmer, but might be being stooopid!
Also, I'm sure you've got v well thought through reasons, but your mattress looks quite pricey? Wondered what the thinking was there, we paid £19 so I'm wondering if I should've done more research!
Did you and Alice use the sling for a really long time? Your back is obviously stronger than mine! Can I be bold enough to suggest a little something extra in the form of vitamins and minerals for you, as your pregnancy was so rough last timeHope hols packing goes well. I hate packing
Mattress: We wanted a good one so it would last - we're planning on keeping her in the cot as long as we possibly can (will probably move on to cot with side down for her to climb out before we move on to a bed) so we went for a sprung one rather than a foam one.
Sling: Alice started walking at 12 months so once she was walking we gradually used it less and she walked more. It's hard to say exactly when but eventually there came a point where the carrying was such a small proportion that it was easier just to carry in our arms or on our shoulders than to bother with the sling. We do occasionally still use the sling now if we go walking and keep one in the car just in case we have a breakdown or something.
Vitamins: I did take vitamins last time (except for when I was too sick) but have since read about some research which compared natural and artificial vitamin suplementation which made me not want to use artificial vitamins. I am planning to make some nutritious smoothie recipes though before we TTC so that I can have them if I'm too sick to eat.
Packing: thanks - I don't like packing either (although holiday packing is far more enjoyable than house moving packing).
I also realised I forgot to include electricity and food on my budget - they came to £320 for Alice so I guess would be similar next time. (I estimated based on the difference in annual expenditure after Alice was born.)money_maker wrote: »Can i ask, at what age did you all start putting your little ones to bed at a set time? I mean Dylan is fed every 4 hours so gets a feed at 10.30 then me and him go to bed and OH then gets up to do the 2.30am feed, then me and Dylan get up at 6.30am for the morning feed, but was wondering what everyone else does? Do you have a routine, or are you all fairly flexable about it ??Chris's first night he slept (well would have if MWs didn't keep waking us up!!) for 10 hrs straight and refused to feed they put the fear of god into me and were talking about giving him a bottle  I managed to say "but I want to BF" (I wasn't as bolshy as a 1st timer) so they said they could test his blood sugar and only if it was low would he need a bottle - it was fine so we both lost sleep over nothing!

I asked them to wake me to feed Toby because he didn't feed at birth. They said they would, but didn't, then when the next feed didn't work, told me they were giving him formula. They got a telling off. My notes say that I was told the importance of feeding the baby. In the end, I had to lie and say he had a good feed so I could go home. Had we stayed, they would have kept pushing formula and I might not have found out that I could express.Stay-at-home, attached Mummy to a 23lb 10oz, 11 month old baby boy.0

The MW told me she was going to wake me up at a certain time. She didn't but I woke up not lang after that time anyway. I spent ages trying to feed her than ages getting her back to sleep again and then the MW turned up and woke us up and we went through the whole rigmarole again. I would have been so much better off at home.Any question, comment or opinion is not intended to be criticism of anyone else.2 Samuel 12:23 Romans 8:28 Psalm 30:5

Started slimming world last week, but has been a hard week as OH's family were down from Scotland and they love to eat out!
His Nanna and Granda are on it and have lost 2st and 3st since January!
I'm really in that frame of mind though and it is such a good plan to follow, i mean this morning i've had a small bowl of cereal then a 'grill up' (bacon, tomatoes, mushrooms and a dry fried egg.
Ryan is officially a beast lol I'm not used to having such a chubby baby, and long!
He is sleeping through the night, from about 10.30pm till 6.30am, which is good, Aston didnt sleep through until he was 18 months
Astons behaviour is getting a bit bad so am going in today after school to ahve a word with his teacher as I need to sign off some of his ISP work (he goes off with a teacher into the sensory room and to do extra activities with what i can gather is other naught children)
But he is extremely clever, is way ahead in his reading writing and maths skills so I dont really know whats going on, OH's family think it could be because the baby and his teacher said he seems to be seeking attention alot more than usual.:j Baby boy Number 2, arrived 12th April 2009!:j0 -
Oh yes... Where you been hiding AM?
Congrats on the engagement! Did he propose romantically?
My OH proposed with the ring when i was watching hollyoaks :rotfl:
No it wasnt romantically, we got up one morning and he said we were going out, I asked where, he said you'll find out then we pulled up outside the registry office to go and ask what you do lol:j Baby boy Number 2, arrived 12th April 2009!:j0 -

my DS had awful jaundice, he looked like a member of the simpsons, we took him to the doctors when he was a week old and she sent us straight to hospital to be put under a sun lamp for 15 hours straight,
not telling you this to scare you or anything, just BE PREPARED! we were not... we had very little with us (not expecting a hospital visit or not being allowed to go home) he was spared the special care unit as someone had just had triplets (bless that woman) so they brought the sunlamp down to the childrens ward... he looked so small and pitiful, but it did the job
his bilirubin levels fell below the acceptable level and we were allowed home the next day, he was still yellow for a few weeks (didnt realise just how bad it was until we look back at photos now)
once he went pink he looked ill to me! lol
and whoever was asking about early routines - im a firm believer.... listen to anything becles says, cos we tend to have the same ideas on routines!0 -
AM: has DS1's behaviour been difficult for a while? And how is his co-ordination - throwing balls etc. Only because its worth checking out if he has Dyspraxia and is just becoming frustrated rather than naughty

You have loads to offer! Especially to me, it great to have a baby so close in age to DS, I like comparing!
Is Ryan ticklish? That is Tobys new thing, he giggles hysterically and curls up when tickled!Stay-at-home, attached Mummy to a 23lb 10oz, 11 month old baby boy.0
