  • MFD I was the same once we got home from hospital but whilst in hospital the night staff would wake me to wake el to feed her. I hated it!!!

Life as a new mummy is difficult enough without making your life harder IMHO. A new mummy friend of mine kept on about dehydration but Benjamin didn't show any signs of being dehydrated.

3 hours (or 4 hours - I have always been told 3) is an arbitrary figure.

In the hospital one of the MWs said that I needed to wake Benjamin and I told her that I was breastfeeding on demand and as such I would feed him when he demanded it an not before :rotfl:

I had forgotten all about that!!

Never wake a sleeping baby is my rule!!
Oh I agree with that, except that when they are tiny and / or jaundiced you do have to try to keep them more alert so you can stuff more grub into them at regular intervals. Although I remember (even now) how hard it was to wake DS1 / keep him awake for long enough to feed him. Mind you once he started he never stopped ...

BTW, if you've got any bright lights at home, shining one on baby might help with jaundice? A daylight one would be good, but wouldn't any kind help a bit? Krystal?

No idea, sorry... Sunlight and lots of milk is the limit of my jaundice knowledge...

Chris's first night he slept (well would have if MWs didn't keep waking us up!!) for 10 hrs straight and refused to feed they put the fear of god into me and were talking about giving him a bottle  I managed to say "but I want to BF" (I wasn't as bolshy as a 1st timer :p) so they said they could test his blood sugar and only if it was low would he need a bottle - it was fine so we both lost sleep over nothing!

oh before I forget, Tesco have got loads of baby stuff in the £1 aisle, I spied plates, bowls (multipacks), spoons, bottles, cups and johnsons baby shampoo and the greeny/turquoise wash stuff

I had a voucher for £3.50 off when spending £20 on baby so planned to get the 2x jumbo pampers boxes for £20 offer but they only had 1 box of sz 5's - soo annoying I don't think I've ever managed to get sz 5 jumbo box in tesco, what have they got against them?!?!?

    Yurgh.
Morning all... back in sunny England after a 17 hour journey yesterday.

First error - we ran out of one of his reflux meds a day before we travelled. Although he didn't throw up on the plane, he did 3 times in the departure lounge (once each on me and OH), and then when we got home 4 times around the house :( poor little man.

The flight itself was ... ok ... he slept in the airline bassinet for about 6-7 hours, but very very restlessly and grumping, had to be re-settled or BFed back to sleep maybe 5 times. Comedy images of OH standing at the front of the cabin bent over him with her boob in his mouth trying to avoid getting him up...!
OH was very good and did most of the settling so I caught quite a lot of catnaps and she didn't get much rest.

He slept in the cab home, then when we arrived (3.30) I put OH to bed for a few hours as she was a zombie, and entertained Elijah for the afternoon. Got her out of bed after giving him supper and a bath, and we began the attempts to get him to sleep...

Between 7.30 and 8.30 he went down for an hour but woke up screaming; he then wouldn't settle at all (bearing in mind it was around lunchtime California time). At 10 we agreed I'd crash out - as I am back at work today with major jetlag - and OH would stick with it, I was a bit worried as she was still well out of it and bleary.
At midnight I woke up to more of his screaming, thought I'd come out and offer to help - found her standing confused and tearful in the hall having shut him in the bathroom to scream :( I took them both to bed and told her she should just co-sleep and use the booby every time he twitched. It did work but she didn't get a lot of sleep and I woke up quite a bit too.

This whole 8 hour timeshift travelling is a bit of a pain! I really hope he moves closer to UK time body-clock today!
