No real joy on the breastfeeding attempts today :( Rhys wasn't interested this morning or this afternoon, too sleepy so it seems. Tonight as soon as he was near me he almost dived for me then panicked cos he couldn't breathe, he'd buried himself so close to me! It didn't last long though before he started dozing off.. Any tips on keeping him awake for longer so we can master this??
Is it hot where you are and if so is there any way of making it cooler? Although obviously I wasn't in the same situation, I had terrible trouble to get Alice to feed when we were in hospital - I nearly had to stay an extra night because they said she had to feed twice before we could leave. The midwives said it was because I'd had pethidine but it was the heat. It was 24 degrees and the moment I picked Alice up and held her close she would fall asleep. (They also told me that they couldn't discharge me after 10pm because it would be too cold to take a newborn home - not sure what they do in Winter when it's colder than that all day.) I hate to think what it must be like on that ward in the summer when it's really hot.

can anyone help? my milk is drying up quite quickly and so it looks like it'll be mostly bottles from here on in (did 5 months so all my problems considered I am proud of myself). However we nurse to sleep and thats getting harder and harder. I know she needs to self soothe and we need alternative sleep inducers - what can you suggest? CC hasn't worked - I feel she's too young yet and doesn't understand/gets inconsolable making situation worse...........

thanks KT - yes, I've been struggling for ages and pumping no longer produces anything! My iron is still very low and no amount of healthy eating and pills seem to be making much impact. she's at the breast most feeds, but gets upset as hungry!!! I don't mind too much about the bottles - i feel i've done my best but more concerned now about helping her sleep...

I'm worried about this this morning too!

She slept last night 7pm til 4am :D, but at four, after ishe'd had 8 hours sleep, i'd have expected big hard boobies - but they were soft and empty feeling!
Sometimes she really fights and gets upset when i'm trying to feed her.
I've tried porridge every morning for the last two weeks to increase my supply (and lots of hob-nobs :o) but it doesn't seem to have helped.
I was planning to feed for as long as she wants - could this be the end?
I'm off to have a look at Krystals link.......

Just had a horrible time at the doctors, I went for a smear and a coil fit at the same time, thought i would get all the indignity out of the way in one go!

They couldn't get the coil in, they used 2 different speculums and had me wiggling about to change the position, she kept saying your vaginal walls are obscuring your cervix and your cervix is very small as though it was my fault. They eventually got it in after half an hour with two of them at it!

I'm so glad you lot are not real! theres no way I'm telling anyone I know IRL any of that.

ETA RMac do you use a dummy?

Don't assume soft boobs=no milk, it just means your supply is evening out to her needs... Rock hard boobs are because of over supply. If she's getting frustrated it could just be that it's not flowing as quick as she'd like or she's emptied one side and a quick go on the other side will sort her out, or maybe this week she just needs a bit more milk than she did last week and she's waiting for your supply to catch up with her demand...

Rmac, would iron injections not work better than tablets?

Caitlyn just sicked up milk... With my boob still in her mouth! Greedy little madam!!

:rotfl:Awkward you and your little cervix! :rotfl:
The last time I went for my smear, we had a new nurse just started at the practice - a lovely lady who's husband I work with! I was soooo embarrassed and had stupid thoughts all day that she'd go home and she and hubby would be discussing my lady-bits over dinner. :rotfl:

Thanks Krystal - your link explained that, and it seems to make sense! I think i'm so used to big hard leaky boobs - i think its normal!
