jen i am having exactly the same problem, she will not take a bottle and gets extremly upset and there is no calming her down. i am going out on friday so she isnt really going to have much choice in taking the bottle! i think it was scruffy that suggested a doidy cup? they look ike a good idea and it may be worth trying! good luck and if you find out what the secret is before me please tell lol!!!

Hi everyone, i've not posted sice the pregnancy forum but here i am with a bit of a dilemma!! I have a 15 week old baby girl whom i have almost exclusively breast fed apart from the odd bottle if i took her to work (i work with lots of men who would feel very uncomfortable if i got my baps out!!) anyway at about week 10 she decided she couldn't use a bottle! I cancelled my first outing to Oasis :( and bought every bottle suggested on the web but still no luck.

I'm quite happy to continue breastfeeding but i ventured out for 4 hours last friday to watch boyzone and i returned to a distressed daddy and baby. I feel awful for him that i'm the only one who can settle her and that he can't have any special time with her (nor can i have a break).

Any suggestions? i'm also getting very aware that i will be returning to work in 3 months and want to be comfortable leaving her. :(

Any advice would be fab!! xxx
Have you tried having your OH wrapping her in something that smells of you like a t-shirt or your pillow case? she may be happier to feed if it smells like a normal feed
or as Caz said cup feeding

    Good luck x

    Hi all!
Ryan got weighed today, he's 13lb 14oz, so only put on 1lb in 3 weeks, but is still above 'average'
He's in 3-6 monhts clothes now aswell, so hopefully he wont grow out of these so quickly now he's weight has steadied.
He's also got his Jabs at 2.30pm :(

    Thanks guys

Yeah i've got one of those cups and she will take tiny bits but most she spits out and it is a very lengthy process. People keep saying persist but its so hard when i know i can instantly stop the tears!

My sisters baby is 24 weeks and sh's had the same problem and had to give up.

I'm worried it will also put my pregnant friends off bf cos even though this is a pain i would bf again, nothing beats the closeness!

Will try the clothing idea! that might help her settle x

Have just e-mailed my consultant pointing out he was wrong about a particular medical study not applying to me (Weezl - he said the cochrane review of constant EFM didn't apply to high risk labours). Was obviously feeling a bit brave so will see what I get back!

Go Lu - sock it to him :p

    I have a couple of qu's for the BF-ers..
Is it normal for your 'other' boob to hurt when you start to feed? mine does, its not really painful but sort of tingles as the let down starts and lasts for about 30 seconds...
Not sure if anyone will be able to help on this one but does anyone else have a scar on their nipple? I have one about an inch long across my areola and its getting very sore when Ed latches on and until he's slowed his pace, I've tried different positions but he manages to get it in all of them :undecided

I was gonna ask at booby group but I now have to wait in for pest control so might not make it 2mo :( (we had a rat in the garden )

Elle - Rhys really sounds like he's coming along. Hope the trip to Nottingham goes okay. When we sterilised on holiday I bought a big tupperware-type container which we used to contain all of the bottles, teats, dummies etc and which was also used to actually do the sterilising. Sounds similar to what you're thinking?

Yup, bigger one for the pump to keep in the car (OH is driving - I can pump on the move! ;)) and a little one for the changing bag for the dummies.

Speaking of dummies, can you buy really mini ones? I'll have to have a look..

Forgot to say I got some cow print vests from Asda the other day. Consultant got a surprise this morning when he unpoppered Rhys' innocent looking white sleepsuit! :p

We didn't try breastfeeding this morning as got interrupted by the consultants coming en mass to do a head scan (weekly routine thing) with a new machine, which they all wanted to try out. We're going to try when I get back to the hospital :)

As Rhys is going to outpatient appointments at Notts and not onto a ward, we need to take his pram too so he can lie flat - proper big outing! He's going to look so tiny in it as it's not exactly a small pram (SX Freeway). I'd best get the instruction books out and check I know what I'm doing with it all! :o

The "grit your teeth, pins and needles" type feeling? :o Dunno if it's normal, but I get it too!
