    Hi girls

Have we all enjoyed the sunshine then? We've bought a £2.50 paddling pool from Asda today. Could have done with it yesterday TBH if only to keep my feet cool! Sami - jealous as I am, that ship would fill my garden!!

Imogen has really enjoyed being on her swing and slide which Daddy built at the start of the week. Although she kept getting stuck at the top of the slide and couldn't figure out how to sit down. Cue yelling for Daddy (hurrah!) to help her sit down. We've managed to get her confidence up now so she can sit down, but has to bum-shuffle towards the slide. I'm quite pleased really as it means she can't use it without supervision.

We've been for two really long walks over the last few days and I'm pleased I've managed it. Well, maybe not really long, but long enough at 33wks pregnant! Today we had to stop for an ice cream and a quick drink at the pub so I could rest!

Welcome Mrs Tine. Glad Alexandra arrived safe & well. Daylight apparently helps set their bodyclocks and someone (don't know who) recommends taking LO out for around 30mins between 12 and 2pm each day as this is when the special stuff in the sun (sorry, baby brain) is at its strongest for helping set bodyclocks. I religiously threw Imogen in the pram for a quick stroll (even when it rained) and it seemed to help. I know others have put them in the moses basket by the window. You might find it helps with your sanity too!

Weezl - clever you with the things that NICE should investigate. I like to exercise my brain, but that sounds v hard! I'm glad there are people like you who champion these kind of issues.

    congrats and welcome mrs tine!

    glad you enjoyed yourself MFD!

i have a question, i'm seeing the dreaded HV on weds and am going to ask her the same question but thought i might ask you guys first. when he was a few days old she told us we shouldnt feed him the hungry baby formula as its made up differently, at the time i didnt ask any questions cos we had no need to even think about using it, but over the last week he has decided he needs to be fed sometimes as often as every hour and a half, and he's been very whingey cos he hasnt slept properly as he keeps waking and demanding feeds, and he's having more feeds than he should be having according to the chart on the box, which has made me start to think about it. which leads me to ask, what is the actual difference between it and the normal stuff and why would the HV tell me not to put him on it?

Hi Mrs Tine, congrats and welcome!

Had a lovely day out at South Lakes Animal Park, seen loads of animals, so close up you could almost touch, in fact several of them were just scampering around the paths (usually lemurs) or sitting on fences. Had a heart-stopping moment when I turned round from looking at something to come face-to-beak with an emu that was out for a stroll. OH and DS saw him but thought it would be funnier not to tell me! Tom behaved brilliantly, both in his pushchair and out, and sat at the table for lunch like a big boy. He said "Hiya" or "Hello" to just about every person and every animal we passed - and there were a lot of them! Made me feel a lot more optimistic about braving the theme parks with him on holiday!

Both older children are now out with friends and OH has taken Tom to the allotment for an hour before bathtime. Torn over whether I should (a) download today's photos and carry on with making our latest photobook, (b) do the data analysis on our Y5 and Y2 maths papers (c) write a Dooyoo review on South Lakes Animal Park or (d) randomly browse here and thedibb and have a lovely time but not accomplish much. Decisions, decisions.

    Hi Emlou,

there is a different composition of hungry baby formula, the ratio of the 2 types of milk protein is different, whey and cassein. This is a bit like the 2 types of carbohydrate, if you need an example. You know how complex carbs like rice, pasta keep you fuller for longer than simple carbs (sugary snacks?) well this is the protein equivalent. So that much I can answer! But why she didn't want you to use it, I can't answer. R.mac did post saying there was some controversy about it, but I'm not sure she's been on again since for further info!

emlou, from what I remember (and a quick google) first stage milk is whey based, but second stage/hungry baby milk is casein based. Casein in harder to digest so it makes them feel fuller for longer. Hope that helps (probably not!) :-)

Well, I'm worn to shreds with a screaming child, I don't know if it's a cold or teething or a dairy problem (she's started getting a rash around her mouth when she has dairy) but whatever it is the poor mite has bursts of intense misery. She's also trying to learn to crawl so we have lots of thud-screams as she face plants when trying to get on her tummy. And crying with frustration when there's something in front of her she wants but she can only crawl backwards so it gets further away!

  • Whilst I think about it...I bought a big pack of size 2 pampers from home bargains to take away with us (78 nappies) and when we got there they barely fit Benjamin...we spent the whole weekend squeezing him into them with me cursing myself for not thinking about the fact that he is growing.

Now we are home he is fitting into the size 2 pampers here without a problem and I think I realise why the home bargains ones were so cheap

Hi MrsT - well done and congratulations :)

We've been off to the zoo today, although Izzy was more interested in Grandad than the animals. She did like the frilly lizards though!

Weaning update - beetroot is nice, but not as nice as banana. Next time I think I need to wear a raincoat and feed it to her in the bath though :rotfl:. We were at the allotment, and I'd not even got a muslin with me or baby wipes or anything. Would have been better hosing her down there I think - was striaght into the bath when we got home!

thanks weezl and fritha, i've googled it and had a look in baby forums and cant find any reason as to why a baby shouldnt have hungry baby milk, and i'm wondering why they would be able to sell it as 0+ months if theres any reason they shouldnt have it too

MFD - i put seth in size 3 pampers weeks ago cos they were £10 for a box of 156 in asda in the baby event ;) they fit 9lb-20lb and they seemed to fit a lot better straight away, they say if LO is in the higher size range the next size up fits better, plus they're baby dry so they smell a bit better and keep him dryer at night :)

ladybird - izzy is better than i am at food, i hate beetroot with a absolute passion!!

  • em - I have tons of size 3's at the ready, he just didn't seem to fit them very well a few weeks ago so I used coupons to get some size 2's to tide us over. Benjamin doesn't get very wet at night...even when he slept for 10 hours...but then he can soak a nappy through in 10 minutes whilst feeding!

I'm not a formula expert but I would say if you think Seth needs a bit more then why not try him. I know lots of careful and responsible mums that use hungry baby formula so it can't be that bad. HV's may be professionals but they don't know everything and they have their own prejudices same as we all do.

I like my HV, she is a bit drippy but she is basically nice and extremely reassuring :D

Edit: I hate beetroot AND bananas - they are the ONLY 2 things that I won't eat!
