Why is my baby a grinch during the day and then an angel as soon as daddy gets home at night?
*sigh* oh well
MM congratulations!
elle - hugs and you're doing great with the expressing - it does have up and down days - Roo was overcooked by 6 days and is now 4 weeks old and I STILL have up and down days on expressingHang in there - when you can get him latched on properly then it'll get easier
Feely - how're you doing?
Krystal - she does still lack a little on the latching on - we start out great and then it's like she slips? After about 5 mins of sucking great she starts the "clicking" noise which I know means she's not latching on properly but even when I take her off and put her back on she's almost straight back to clicking
Will go back to boob cafe on monday and see what they say

Have you tried different positions like lying down or rugby ball hold? Sometimes they're a bit easier to sustain... With the cross cradle hold it is easy for them to slip after a while if you are supporting all their weight, they get heavy and your arms drop a little, or you end up hunched over them a little to give your arms a break... You're right about the clicking being a good indicator that the latch isn't quite right, it means your nipple is not far enough into her mouth... I hope you get lots of good support and information at booby group
I've had a much better day today with Caitlyn, she slept a lot which is good, made us both a bit more relaxed and her evening grumps were easier to handle... Two different people told me I looked tired today... The newborn baby and the husband that wakes me up 30 minutes after I fall asleep to tell me he's put some washing on and loaded the dishwasher probably has something to do with that!A very proud Mummy to 3 beautiful girls... I do pity my husband though, he's the one to suffer the hormones...My Fathers Daughter wrote: »Krystal is so smart and funny and wonderful I am struck dumb in awe in her presence.

In a completely not asking for medical advice kinda way...my coccyx began hurting when I was pregnant (quite early on if anyone remembers I was sat on a gymball at my desk at work...) It stopped when I got heavily pregnant but since I have given birth it really hurts again
I struggle to change position when I have been sat down for just a few minutes.

feelie, where you are? You okay hun?
Hurrah for the tablets.. still workingIf I wanted to (and get told off by the nurses!) I could actually sleep through the whole night and until midday we have so much milk in the fridge!
We had another bash at breastfeeding earlier but Rhys was more bothered about lying there looking up at me or around the room than concentrating on matters in hand so we didn't have too much success. Sorry, this is gross, but they have to check the acidity of the contents of his tummy so suck it all back out with a syringe to measure it and there was something there so he must have got a few drops at least! We're going to have another bash at midnight if he's awake enough..
We're moving home from the hospital tomorrow.. need some normality and there are parents here with a need greater than ours (the mums are still inpatients on maternity for now but will want to come up and stay as soon as they are discharged). It'll be a few weeks at least before they think about Rhys coming home as he's got to master breastfeeding and put on some weight first so I'll visit a few times in the day (doctors rounds in the morning plus a mid-afternoon looksee) then again in the evening with OH. We'll have a few tries a day at b/feeding then once he's almost ready to go home, I have to move back in for a few days so we can do feeding on demand and learn things like bathing him etc.
Sometime soon, Rhys is going on a day trip to see kidney specialists in Nottingham. There are six nurseries here - he started in Room 1, moved to Room 2, then Room 6 and today got moved to Room 3. After the trip to Nottingham, it'll be Room 5 (isolation) for a few days, then eventually Room 4, then the car park, then home.. hurrah! Doing the full tour of the unit.
Suppose I should start thinking about somewhere for him to sleep! Cot is coming on July 6th but I never decided about a moses basket (don't really like them), the Sapling Katie crib (which looks like a magazine rack!) or the hammock that OH wanted.. MFD, is Benjamin still in his hammock? How did he get on with it longterm?
Anyway, enough rambling from me.. I'll be packing first thing tomorrow then moving out (argh, just remembered the lift is broken and we're on the second floor!), so hope everyone has a good weekendxxx

elle its amazing how such a simple thing like driving makes you feel so free again isnt it!
i'm fed up to the point of tears with seth and his ridiculous sleeping habits, was up at 5am for the second day in a row today and for the last week or so he simply refuses to sleep without a fight, and i do mean a fight - temper tantrums in the form of kicking, screaming, punching and scratching, i've actually got proper scratches on my arms and chest, i look like a cat has attacked me!
its been getting progressively worse and yesterday afternoon he was awake for 4 hours as he refused to accept he was tired after 1 even though he was yawning and had huge red eyes, i gave up and put him in bed and attempted controlled crying, going in after 5 mins then 10 then 15, this went on for another hour, my neighbour knocked to ask if we were ok - she thought i had gone out and left him cos he screaming so long! he went off during a feed eventually. cue OH telling me its my fault cos he's not in enough of a routine when all i do all day when he is off is tell OH off for not abiding by my routine!
i am taking him to my nans later and leaving him for the afternoon before i go completely insane. i really feel like i cant go on like this. at least when we move out of this poxy excuse for a flat i will be able to shut the door on his tantrums.
hi mel,
i am constantly surprised at how your little boy and my little girl seem to have the same ways.
my little one is doing the same thing but i must say has been doing so for some time now. it's just so upsetting seeing her sooooo tired and just not going off. she has even started to pinch now too.
i do not have a routine as such either and am happy to nurse her to sleep but it is always a struggle. trying to look into anything that can help0 -
Oh elle - it is SO wonderful to hear you talking about WHEN Rhys comes home.
We still have the hammock and Benjamin naps in his during the day sometimes but to be honest he is too much of a fidget to sleep for long in there. He is not the kind of baby who likes to be confined, he hated being swaddled, even in the hospital. He is in his big boy cot now(and slept for 9 hours last night
)
Just doing my nightly expression - I find that this is the only time that B leaves me alone or long enough for me to build up any milk.
New Booby Club today was not an established group, more of a drop in, so there was just me and a lady with a tiny 6 day old baby girl!! You forget how tiny they are!
We were chatting about feeding laying down and I offered to demonstrate - so B and I got on the floor and Benjamin started to feed and promptly closed his eyes...we only lie down when he needs a nap, bless him, he must just associate that position with sleeping :rotfl:
We did get coffee and apple cake thoughplease listen to MFD - she is a wise womanProud Mummy to the gorgeous Benjamin John born 14 March 2009, 8lbs 14ozA new little seedling on the way, due 30 September 20120 -
MFD - shame you dont live closer, could help me with feeding baby girl.
saying that, i remember why i didn't go to our breastfeeding clinic when i got home from hospital. it was to do with something written in my notes about me. i am still thinking about writing to the head of the maternity department to complain. i know it wont change anything but might make me feel better.
elle -- so grateful for your updates about rhys. he is such an inspiration (as are you) and such a fighter.
are you including oats in your diet to help with your milk. i am thinking of doing this.0
