  • In my last pay slip (end July), for some reason, no student loan repayment was taken.

    Any ideas why?

I assume I still owe money as by my calculations I could not yet have paid it off. Trouble is, I applied at my old family home back in 1999 but my folks have moved on. I don't know my ID number for the SLC to check online and I never seem to remember to call them when they are open.

Ah, this looks like the place I need.

I am about begin the second year of an undergraduate degree. In the first year I was assesed as being elegible for Parents Living Allowance, Adult Depenents Grant and Childcare Grant. Unfortunately this hasn't been the case this year. An advisor at SLE suggested that I reapply and hope the decision is different.

Does anyone have any idea why this happened? The advisor I spoke to didn't seem to know or want to reveal the criteria/thresholds for receiving these allowances.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

call either your payroll dept, or the SFE people, and get it chased they will be able to find you with DOB, and national insurance number etc...

Has anything changed? The income you're assessed on, your living situation / dependents, course being studied etc.

Does anyone know what the criteria is for the special support grant?

DH is a student with the OU, I will be a student at uni, will we be entitled to it as we are both students or do we both need to be at 'physical' universities?

I was told that the OU didn't count, because it's part-time (even if he's studying on a full-time basis, all their courses are classes as part time). But you could phone and check that with them, you might get lucky.

Does anyone have a complaints email address or a contact for DSA? I'm having an absolute nightmare of a time, and keep being told to wait 10 days, which has just happened again. This takes me well over the week that the university had planned to spend teaching me how to use equipment and software, and by the time things are actually delivered, I'll have already started.

I really need the help, but the university putting pressure on hasn't helped, and the telephone operators are unwilling to let me speak to a team leader or give me an email address...

I'm really hoping someone can help :(
  • Long story short I was at university for about 4 years from 2004 but I didn't do very well, changed courses etc and left with a lot of debt and nothing to show for it. This year I was diagnosed with bipolar II, which explains my behaviours and inability to get the qualifications I should have. I am considering an access course to return but was wondering what my chances are of getting any kind of loan if I were to provide letters from my GP, psychiatrist and CPN? Obviously for the degree, not the access course!

You have to go via Student Finance for DSA enquiries as they do not have direct email.
Might be worth going via the DSA assessor who you first saw to assess you're condition. I did this last year and if I remember correctly I think they passed my information onto DSA for help.

Usually it is the equipment provider, not the Uni who teaches you how to use the software etc and they will come to your home OR your place of study if you so wish (or at least they did in my son's case). It usually requires you arranging an appointment once they have delivered your equipment.

    Hope this helps.

Apart from there being an extra child in the household, everything is the same as last year.
